1. لصومك شهر الصوم يكسى من الفجر

    ملابس لم تخلع على ليلة القدر

    Your fasting in the month of Ramadan is clothed

    In garments it has not taken off on the Night of Power

  2. يفضل يوم واحد لك صمته

    على الف عام للبرية لا شهر

    One silent day for you is worth more

    Than a thousand years for the wilderness, not just a month

  3. تفرغ شهر الصوم يجهد نفسه

    على حفظ ما تملى عليه من البر

    The month of fasting wearies itself

    To keep what is recited to it of righteousness

  4. فما استوعبت حفظا أياديك صحفه

    أياديك لا تحصى بعد ولا حصر

    Yet your hands could not contain to memorize

    Its pages, your hands cannot be counted or limited

  5. توخيت فيه فعل كل مثوبة

    فراح بما أودعته مثقل الظهر

    You sought in it the doing of every reward

    So it went away burdened on its back with what you entrusted it

  6. وكنت له شغلا عن الخق شاغلا

    فما خط في أعمال غيرك من سطر

    And you made it busy from the truth, occupying it

    So it did not write in deeds other than yours a line

  7. ولا غرو أن يليه شأنك عنهم

    فقد شغل الشيء الكثير عن النزر

    And no wonder that your affair distracted it from them

    Since the much preoccupied the little

  8. لئن ضاع سعي الخلق في جنب سعيه

    كما ضاع في بحر رذاذ من القطر

    If the effort of creation was lost next to its effort

    As a sprinkling of drops was lost in the sea

  9. فقد قبل الله الجميع لأجله

    وحط من الخلق العظيم من الوزر

    For God accepted all because of it

    And removed from the great creation (some) burden

  10. شغلت بتقوى الله نفسا زكية

    تحن سجاياها إلى الحمد والأجر

    You busied a pure soul that inclines

    Its morals to praise and reward

  11. وقدمت خيراً لا تقدم مثله

    وقابلت فضل الله بالحمد والشكر

    And you put forth good the like of which is not put forth

    And you met God's bounty with praise and gratitude

  12. وما استولت الدنيا عليك وقد حوت

    يمينك ما فيها من النفع والضر

    The world did not overtake you though it contained

    In your right hand what benefits and harms

  13. فلليك حي بالصلاة وبالدعا

    وكثرة ما يتلى عليك من الذكر

    So yours is alive with prayer and supplication

    And the abundance of what is recited to you of remembrance

  14. وصبحك في صوم وعلم وطاعة

    وذلك عند الله من أعظم الأجر

    And your morning is in fasting, knowledge and obedience

    And that is with God among the greatest reward

  15. وحلقة علم يسقط الطير فوقها

    منزهة الأرجا عن اللغو والهجر

    A circle of knowledge birds fly over

    Scented with aromas, aloof from nonsense and gossip

  16. بها ظل أهل العلم حولك عكفا

    كما عكفت زهر النجوم على البدر

    In its shade the people of knowledge clustered around you

    As the stars cluster around the full moon

  17. وما بك من حاج اليهم وكم بهم

    هنالك من حاج إليك ومن فقر

    You have no need to go to them, while many of them

    There have need to you and poverty

  18. أتوك بعلم أنت اعلمهم به

    وأدرى بما فيه من الخير والشر

    They came to you with knowledge but you know more than them

    And are more knowledgeable of the good and evil in it

  19. فكانوا وهم حوليك مقدار نعمة

    من الله جلت أن تقابل بالكفر

    So they were around you the value of a blessing

    From God too majestic to be met with disbelief

  20. إذا نظر الإِنسان من هو دونه

    درى ما لفضل الله فيه من القدر

    When man looks at who is below him

    He knows the value of God's bounty in him

  21. ولو توزن الدنيا جميعا وأهلها

    بظفرك ما وافوا قلاماً من الظفر

    If the world and all its people were weighed

    Against your success they would not equal a fragment of success

  22. فأنت لرب العرش فينا خليفة

    وجودك فينا كالحليفة للقطر

    For you are to the Lord of the Throne among us a deputy

    Your existence among us is like rain for the thirsty land

  23. جزيت جزاء المحسنين عن الورى

    واأت بهم أحفى من الوالد البر

    You were given the reward of the benefactors among humanity

    And you came with the most merciful conduct of a righteous parent

  24. إذا أحسنوا احسنت فيهم ومن أسى

    جررت عليه ذيلي العفو والستر

    When they did good, you did good among them, and whoever harmed

    You dragged over him the tail of pardon and concealment

  25. ومن كان إسمعيل مالك أمره

    فقد بات معه في أمان من الدهر

    Whoever Ismail rules over

    Has spent the night with him in safety from time

  26. فتى لا يبالي حين يبعث عزمه

    أفي تلف الأعدا أغار أم الوفر

    A young man who does not care when he unleashes his resolve

    Whether in destruction of enemies or prosperity

  27. سجية نفس ما مشت مشى ريبة

    ولا خلطت في سعيها العرف بالنكر

    A soul of character that did not walk in doubt

    And did not mix custom and strangeness in its endeavor

  28. إذا ما اجتلينا من محياه طلعة

    رأينا مياه الجود في وجهه تجرى

    When we uncloak from his face a glimpse

    We see the waters of generosity flowing in his face

  29. فقد أضحت الآمال تلقاء بابه

    كراديس من شفع معد ومن وتر

    For hopes have come to incline at his door

    Like rows of interceding and harmonious strings

  30. فمن كان منهم آملاً قدر همه

    فهمي عل مقدار جودك لا قدرى

    So whoever of them had a hope, estimated his need

    Then understand the extent of your generosity, do not estimate
