يا أيها الملكُ الذي لا يغلبُ

عما يريد ولا يعز المطلبُ

O king who cannot be defeated

Nor can any goal evade you

ما اعتدت أن ترمي الجيوش بفيلق

إلا وهمَّ الجيس منك المهربُ

You did not use to hurl armies in droves

Except that the enemy fled in fear of you

حتى لقد قالوا بأن سعوده

طال المدى فيها عليه تصعبُ

Until they said Saudi’s siege

Of it had been prolonged and difficult for him

إلا وقد علمت بأن الحربِ إن

من حسن صبرك إِنه يستغربُ

But I knew that with war

Patience brings you admiration

ولعلمهم بالصبر فيك تعده

خيراً من الفتح الذي هو أقربُ

And knowing your patience

They saw it better than a quick triumph

رأوا اهتمامك بالمعالي والندى

وهموم أملاك الورى أن يلعبوا

They saw your care for glory and eminence

And the concerns of the world’s kingdoms

لولا مرادُ الله فيك لتلتقي

تلك الظنون الكاذبات وتذهبُ

Were it not for God’s will in you

Those false suspicions would vanish

لمحوتَ بالسيف المداد بلحظةٍ

محوَ المداد لحافظ ما يكتبُ

With one glance you could erase with the sword

What pens have written

يارب لا تبط بفتح فالورى

علموا بحسنِ الصبرِ فيه وجرّبوا

O Lord do not haste victory

For they have known your excellent patience and tested it

قد أقبل العامُ الجديد لذلك الوجه

السعيد بما يسرَ ويطربُ

The new year has come for that blessed face

With good news that brings joy

وافى بشيراً بالفتوح تسابقت

حتى يكاد البعضُ بعضاً يركبُ

Rushing to compete as if

Some ridden upon others’ backs

وقضى المحرم إن أنت محرم

أبدا على ما لست فيه ترغبُ

And Muharram passed, if you forbid

What you do not like forever

فتهنه ولك البقا في نعمةٍ

حتى ترى فيها قروناً تذهبُ

Be happy and live prosperously

Until you see eras pass
