I left Hind of my own free will,
then regretted it when we parted.
Now the eye spills forth its tears,
like pearls from its inner corners,
streaming down over the mantle,
coursing in their limpid flow.
A full-figured, tender young beauty—
indecency is no part of her nature.
Indeed, I delight in her conversation,
and rejoice in her embrace.
If you serve drink from skins of full-grown—
—pale camels, or skins of their young,
then pour for the sons of Nahd, when
they drink, the choicest of those wineskins.
For the horses know how we over—
—take a treacherous band in pursuit,
with steel-blue spearheads; at dawn we fell—
—upon the foe, their slender points keen,
until you see the lances splintered,
and white blades at their throats.
