1. وَأُنسِيتُ مِنهُ الوَعدَ بِالوَصلِ ضَلّةً

    وَقَد كانَ مِنّا قَبلَ ذَلِكَ ما كانا

    I forgot his promise of reunion, lost,

    Though before that there was between us what there was -

  2. عِناقاً وَلَثماً مِن ثَنايا كَأَنَّها

    أَقاحِي الرُبى غَضّاً مِن الطلِّ رَيّانا

    An embrace, and kisses from lips that were like

    The buds of bushes, moist from the dripping dew.

  3. فَلا عَجَبٌ أَنّي نَسيتُ عُهُودَهُ

    فَشَمُّ الأَقاحِي يُورِثُ المرءَ نِسيانا

    So it's no wonder that I forgot his vows -

    The scent of buds will make one prone to forget.
