صاحبَ الدولة يا شيخ الوزاره

حاجتي إن شئتَ تُقضي بإشارهْ

O minister, fulfill my need if you wish with a gesture

The loyal obtained it before me, I was not

نالها قبلي الوفٌ لم أكن

دونهم علماً ولا أدنى إدارهْ

Inferior to them in knowledge or capability

My age has exceeded sixty, yet

ناهز الستين عمري إنما

لم أزل جم القوى جمّ الجدارهْ

My strength and skill persist

If the likes of me have no disability

وإذا لم يشكُ مثلي علةً

هل من الحكمة أن يلزم دارهْ

Is it wise to confine him to his house?

Indeed, leaving the service of homelands after

إنّ تركي خدمةَ الأوطان معْ

طول ما مارستُ في الدنيا خسارهْ

The long time I spent in life is a loss

And my whole life I spent

وحياتي كلها قضّيتها

تارةً في العدلِ والتعليمِ تارهْ

Sometimes in justice and education

I have no estate to provide

ليس عندي ضيعةٌ تكفل لي

رزق أولادي ولا عندي تجارهْ

Sustenance for my children, no commerce

Though numerous, none of my children

إنّ أولادي على كثرتهم

ليس فيهم بعدُ من يكسب بارهْ

Can yet earn a living

Keep me a few more years until

أبقني بضعَ سنينٍ ريثما

يقدر الأكبرُ أن يؤوي صغارهْ

The eldest is able to provide for the little ones

Or until what I hold runs out

أو إلى أن ينتهي ما في يدي

وهو إن تمّ فخَارٌللنظارهْ

And that would be praiseworthy for viewers
