  1. أرحْ فؤادكَ مما أنتَ لاقيهِ

    وباعد القلبَ عن كدٍّ يعانيهِ

    Relieve your heart from what you are enduring,

    And keep the heart away from toil and suffering.

  2. واستبق نفسكَ من حبِ تزاولهُ

    وْأسفْ على عُمرُ ضيعتهُ فيهِ

    Rescue yourself from the love you engage in,

    And grieve for a life you wasted on it.

  3. ما في الصباباتِ والأهواءِ منفعةً

    إذا غدا الصبّ والمحبوبِ جافيهِ

    Of youthful passions and whims no benefit comes,

    If youth and the beloved turn unfeeling.

  4. قد تَيَّمتك مهاةٌ تزدري قمراً

    والحسنُ في وجهها تمت معانيهِ

    You were struck by a beauty scorning the moon,

    Perfection on her face, its meanings complete.

  5. وأوقدت في صميمِ القلبِ نار هوى

    وجرَّعَتكَ كؤوسَ الصدّ والتيهِ

    And kindled in your heart’s core the fire of love,

    Made you drink the cups of rejection and loss.

  6. فاصبر على الحب إن لم تستطع بدَلاً

    والصبّ أيسرُ ما في الصبرِ يكفيهِ

    So be patient with love if you can’t find a substitute,

    For patience is easiest for the lover to endure.

  7. ما أنتَ أولَ حِبٍّ نالهُ شططٌ

    متيمٍ في الهوى الحبِ شافيهِ

    You’re not the first that unrestrained love befell,

    A longing soul consumed by love’s remedy.
