By your life, neither the cheeks nor tales
Could bring more joy than our nights’ tales
Nor the beauty of a delicate gazelle
Could equal the charm of these feelings
Let those nights suffice that my tears
For remembering them flow from my eyelids
Nights when you were a full moon in their darkness
Dazzling to all sights like a swift one
We owe it to your sublime merit and become
In your protection's shade, the virtuous find refuge
For you have many high horizons
And in the forum of eloquence, great pauses
So who can I reach the pinnacles
Without reaching them, but divergences loom
And who can illuminate Egypt's horizon
Guide us on the paths and niceties
And call to guidance those come
With the glory of their homeland, every side
And those who deviated from truth obstinately
And wandered into the murky, turbid depths
Lend an ear, for the folk have gone astray
And wandered in their delusion, factions
They have transgressed in their disgrace and lost their way
Deceived by the hopes of high office
They have forsaken the councils and disdained
Bowed down prostrate beneath the blankets
Forbidden pastimes replaced what's allowed
And knowledge was changed for music
Is this what God wants of us
That we make you successors on earth?
Matters in their courses bring shame
And worse than their courses, the banks
