أتمّ السلام لحبر الأنام

سمى المقام فريد الزمنْ

I send my greetings to the beloved of all people

Whose rank is unique throughout time

كريم السجايا شريف المزايا

مفيد العطايا كثير المننْ

Noble in character, virtuous in qualities

Generous in gifts, abundant in favours

مَعِين المعاني الذي لفظهُ

رشيقُ المباني رقيقٌ حسنْ

Supporter of meanings, whose words

Are elegant in composition, gentle and beautiful

سنيّ المحيّا وهذي الثريا

تحاكي سناه إذا الليل جنّ

His smiling face and radiant visage

Rival the moon when night falls

سما قدره لسماء الكمال

وطالعُه بالسعود اقترن

The heavens destined him for perfection

And his rise was joined with good fortune

وبعدُ فإنّ الفتى المستهام

بحبكمو في الورى مفتتنْ

Moreover, the passionate youth

Is infatuated with your love in existence

حليف السقامِ لفرط الغرام

فمن للشجيّ الكثير الشجنْ

Afflicted with sickness from intense passion

So who will comfort the most woeful lover?

عليه البعاد قضي بالسهاد

وطرد الرقا ونفي الوسن

He is condemned to distance, decreed sleeplessness

And the dismissal of serenity and companionship

فيا عاذلي في الهوى كُف عن

ملامي فما القصد إلاّ حسن

So my critic in love, cease your blame

For my intention is nothing but good
