1. من لي إذا ما استقل الركب أو سارَا

    وعن عيوني أبان الجار والدارا

    When the caravan departs, who will I have?

    When the neighbor and home disappear from my eyes.

  2. فإن تهتكت في آثارهِ شغفاً

    فليس ذلك في شرع الهوى عارا

    If passionately I follow his traces,

    That is no disgrace in love's law.

  3. والله إني شج والعدل أجدر بي

    يا ليتهُ بالنوى والبعد ما جارَا

    By God, I'm torn yet justice suits me more.

    If only it aligned with intention and distance!

  4. وكنت آمل أن القلب يتبعني

    ما باله قد غدا في التيه سيّارا

    I hoped the heart would follow me.

    Why has it wandered astray?

  5. فلا ملامة تعروني بصبوتهم

    فقد أقمت على شجواي أعذارا

    Don't blame me for their indifference.

    I've given excuses for my longing.

  6. إن أظهر الجمع ما بي من جوايَ فقد

    أضمرتُه في سوادِ القلبِ إضمارا

    If the group reveals my madness,

    I've kept it secret in my heart's darkness.

  7. وإن أطلوا دمي في بينهم هدراً

    فلستُ أطلب منهم بعدَ ذا ثارا

    If they spill my blood among them in vain,

    Afterwards I won't seek revenge from them.

  8. ما كان ذنبيَ حتى ضيّعوا أملي

    وصبّحوا مدمعي في الأرضِ مدرارا

    What was my crime that they wasted my hope

    And made my tears flow bitterly on the ground?

  9. لأشكُونّ لقاضي الحب مظلمتي

    عساه يرسل للمحبوبِ إنذارا

    I will complain to love's judge about my injustice,

    Hoping he will warn the beloved.

  10. وإن أبيَ رحمتي في ظلِ ساحتهِ

    كلفته في الهوى عطْلاً وإضرارا

    If he denies me mercy in his courtyard,

    I will burden him in love with neglect and harm.

  11. لعل لي ناصفاً من ذاك ينصفني

    ويُصدر الحكم بالمأمولِ إصدارا

    Perhaps I'll find someone there who will give me justice,

    And issue the desired judgment.

  12. وذلك الشهم حفني من به حضرتْ

    كل المعالي وجلت فيه أنصارا

    That generous one has encompassed me

    With all the heights gathered around him.

  13. به الفضائلُ لا يحصى لها عدد

    يضيقُ عنها الفضا سمعاً وأبصارا

    Boundless are his virtues,

    Too immense for hearing and sight.

  14. يا كعبة الأرض يا من جَلّ منزلةً

    وأظهر العلمَ في الآفاقِ إظهارا

    O Kaaba of the earth, O you whose station is sublime,

    Displaying knowledge to all horizons.

  15. بعزم باعك شادوا رتبةً عظُمت

    ومِن جداولها أجريت أنهارا

    With your resolve they built a lofty rank,

    And from its streams flow rivers.

  16. ما قلدوك بها إلاّ لتُورِثها

    من شيمةِ الفضلِ إحساناً ومقدارا

    They gave you this only to bequeath it

    The merit of benevolence and worth.

  17. فإن حكمتَ فحقٌ ما تسطره

    ولا تنال به في الحي إنكارا

    If you judge, what you decree is truth,

    You will meet no denial among the living.

  18. حاشاك تحرم مظلوماً مطالبهُ

    أو أن تعِير وفودَ اليسر إعسارا

    Far be it from you to deprive a wronged man of his rights,

    Or shame the delegations of ease with poverty.

  19. إن الحقوق لتُثني والعلومٌ بما

    حققت فيها لأهل العلم أعصار

    You fold up rights and your knowledge of the sciences

    Has brought realization to scholars of all eras.

  20. لكنّ فضلك فيها قَد أناب لنا

    أزكى المعارف بنياناً وتذكارا

    Yet your merit therein has appointed for us

    The purest knowledge, structurally and in recollection.

  21. فللصعيد هناء فالعدالة قد

    وافت إليه وقرّت فيه إقرارا

    So the land rejoices. Justice has come to it

    And settled in it decisively.
