أفرحْ يا حنفي بأسيوطْ

يابُو الأدبْ والسياسهْ

Rejoice, O Hanafi, in Assiut,

O father of literature and politics,

الكل بالنقل مبسوط

عقبال تولِّي الرياسهْ

Everyone is happy with the transfer,

Until you assume the presidency,

لكنْ قنا في لظاها

من كُتْرْ شوقْها بعَدْلَكْ

But Qena is burning with yearning for you,

From excessive longing after your departure,

دي رفعتك من مُناها

وإن غبتْ لا تنسى فضلكْ

Your promotion raised it from its sleepiness,

And if you are absent, do not forget your favor.

لي أخ ساكنْ بأسيوط

والأسم حامد مدرِّسْ

I have a brother living in Assiut,

His name is Hamed, a teacher,

يمكن يقابْلكَ بزعبوط

أصلُه صعيدي مؤسسْ

He may meet you frowning,

Since he is Upper Egyptian conservative.

خايفْ يجي لَكْ ومعذور

إنتَ من الأُسْدْ أهيَبْ

He is afraid to come to you, and deservedly,

You are from the formidable lions.

وإن كان يقابلك بحاسْدُور

أحسنْ طريقَهْ وأصوبْ

And if he meets you with displeasure,

Better guide him rightly.

دا بِدُّه يعرف سعادتك

إن كنتْ تسمح نادي لُهْ

He wants to know your excellence,

If you allow, call him,

واللطف والظرف عادتك

اجعل ودادك نادِي لهْ

Kindness and refinement are your habit,

Make your affection call him.

واسمح ونجِّز وعودك

بالردّ لي ردّ تاني

Allow and fulfill your promises

By responding to me again,

اللهُ يعَلّي سعودك

ويبلْغكَ للأماني

May God elevate your happiness,

And bring you to your wishes.
