الشوقْ إلى نظمِ الأزجالِ

غلبْ على أمرِ القاضي

Longing for composing folk poems

Has overcome the judge’s discipline

والقصدْ أشرح واقعة حالِ

ما دمت فاضي أعمل قاضي

And my intent is to explain the situation

As long as I'm free, I'll work as a judge

جرنالْ نشرْ ضمن الأخبار

نادره لقاضي من قِبْلي

A newspaper spread the rare news

Of a judge before me

أخد أجازه ودار منشار

في مصرِ ياكل ويوَلَي

Who took a vacation and went partying

In Egypt, eating and gallivanting
