1. جَليسٌ لنا لا يَبرح الدهرَ قاعداً

    رمانا به الحِرمانُ من حيثُما رمى

    A companion sits with us, never leaving,

    Though deprivation has struck wherever he aims.

  2. له مُقلة حولا وعينٌ مريضةٌ

    وعمَا قريب سوف يُدركه العمى

    He has dimmed vision and a sickly eye,

    And blindness will soon overtake what is near.

  3. إذا أبصرت عيناي طلعتَه التي

    أموتُ بها غمّاً أرى الموتَ مَغنما

    When my eyes see that rising light

    For which I die of sorrow, I see death as gain.
