صلاة وتسليم زكى مطيب

على أحمد المخصوص بالأسرى والنبا

Blessings and peace, fragrant and pure

Upon Ahmad, distinguished with the Night Journey and prophethood

ما شد حادي الظعن فوراً إلى الذي

محبته فرضا عليّ ومذهبا

No sooner did the voice of censure roar

Toward the one whose love is incumbent upon me and my creed

عليه سلام اللَه في كل طرفة

متى لاح ضوء الشمس وانشق غيبها

Upon him is God's peace at every glance

Whenever the light of sun rises and its unseen is unveiled

بعثت له مني سلاماً معطرا

وآونة شوقا بحبي مذهبا

I sent him from me a fragrant greeting

And a token of longing with my perfumed love

بطرف تحيات زكيات اذ غدت

بريح الصبا ليلاً إذا هب من قبا

With a wink of pure, subtle greetings when

The morning breeze blows at night when it blows from tombs

فأني حقيقا لي حبيب مودع

بنحو بني سعد زكيا مطيبا

So I truly have a beloved whom I bade farewell

In the manner of Bani Sa'd, pure and fragrant

ذكرت فتى صاح محبا ومغرما

بعهد الصبا قد ما إلى حب قد صبا

I remembered a passionate and enamored youth

In the covenant of youth that has poured unto love

فانت وطيب البان هل تعلمانه

ويا نسمة الاسحار باللَه هل نبا

Do you and the goodness of character know him

And oh morning breeze, by God, did it inform you

وأنت نسيم الصبح باللَه خبرا

بما كان في الليل البهيم وما نبا

And you, breeze of the dawn, by God, any news

Of what transpired in the confused night and what it informed

فاني حبيب لي محب فديته

طلبت وصالاً منه صدَّ وما ابا

I have a beloved whom I ransom

I sought union but he refused and declined

ذكرت له اني محب مهتك

شكوت له حالي فرق وما صبا

I told him I'm an enamored lover

I complained of my state but he turned away and poured not

أتيت له جان ذليلا وخاضعا

فيا ليته للوصل رق وأوهبا

I came to him, humiliated and obedient

If only he would be gentle for the union and grant

نبي له في الكف سبحت الحصى

وبدر له قد شق نصفين أوهبا

I pointed to the pebbles in my palm that glorified him

And the full moon split in two halves for him

له أنطق اللَه الجماد وكلمت

له الوحش والحيوان بالقول أطنبا

For him God made the inanimate speak

And the beasts and animals speak at length

نبي رسول الخلق بالصدق والوفا

صفياً نجيا أريحيا مقربا

The prophet of mankind with truth and loyalty

A chosen, delivered, close confidant

ومجد له قد فاق عربا وأعجما

وسيد مخزوم ونمر وتغلبا

And his glory surpassed both Arabs and non-Arabs

And the master of Makhzoum, Nimr, and Taghlib

وتذكارنا بدراً واحداً وصف له

حنيناً وما أبدى الحبيب فاطنبا

And our recollection of a single full moon describing him

At Hunayn and the beloved did not express at length

من المعجزات الغر اذ كان نافحا

لهم بالحصي والجمع مهزوم مكربا

Of the manifest miracles when it was shining

Upon them with pebbles and the defeated crowd was boasting

هناك ابو جهل تحقق جهله

أيذكر اذ يطغى شقي وكذبا

There Abu Jahl realized his ignorance

Mentioned when he was exceedingly arrogant and lying

أيذكر اذ بالسيف قد حز رأسه

صحابي ابن مسعود فللَه فاعجبا

Mentioned when by the sword the head of

His companion Ibn Masoud was struck, so wow at God

سريعاً عليه النائحات تنوحت

عليه بذي القفر النوادب تندبا

Swiftly the wailing women wailed over him

Over him the sobbing elegists at Dhi Qarn lamented

بعثه المليك الفرد غوثاً ورحمة

وحمنا به حقاً فأولى وأوهبا

He was sent by the Singular King as succor and mercy

And we were protected by him in truth and he granted and gifted more

أتينا بصدق شاهدين به له

فسن لنا سنا وفرضاً وأوجبا

We came with truthful witnesses of him for him

So he legislated sunnah for us and made it obligation and more worthy

وسيرته نلتذ فيها على المدى

لنا كالطراز الحاوي زهواً ومذهبا

And his way of life we enjoy for eternity

For us like an encompassing model of glory and creed

عليه صلاة اللَه ما البرق يسطع

وما اخضر ريحان وأورق معشبا

Upon him is God’s blessing whenever lightning flashes

And whenever basil is verdant and meadows grow grass

وما ماس غصن في الرياض تمايلا

وما هبت الأرياح أو لاح كوكبا

And whenever a branch in the gardens sways

And whenever the winds blow or a planet appears

تحية تسليم يفوح معطرا

يضوع ورياه من المسك أطيبا

Greetings and peace, fragrant and diffusing

Musk and flowers sweeter than the finest musk

وآل وصحب منذ ما هبت الصبا

ومهما هما ودق وطل وصيبا

And upon his family and companions since

The youth blew and affection knocked and awoke
