على المختار أحمدنا النبي

The prayer of the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Upon the Chosen One, Ahmad our Prophet

وآل والصحاب الفضل حازوا

دواماً بالبكور وبالعشى

And his family and the companions who attained virtue

Continuously at dawn and at night

أيا من ذاك سالك وادي طي

غلام يطوي البيداء طي

O you who travels the valley of Tay

A boy crossing the desert of Tay

رويدك خذ مقالا مني نظماً

لكي ما تبلغ الثاوين طي

Go slowly, take advice from me in verse

Lest you reach the two ruins of Tay

حبيب اللَه حاز علا وجاها

وأشرف سيد ركب المطي

The beloved of Allah attained glory

And the noblest master of the riding beasts

فبلغه السلام وسل منه

منائي والمآرب يا أخي

Convey to him greetings and ask from him

My wishes and purposes, O brother

لقد أعطى الشفاعة يوم حشر

وذاك الهاشمي الا يطحى

He has certainly been given intercession on the Day of Resurrection

And that Hashimite cannot be denied

وفاق لرسل والأملاك حقاً

من الرحمن بالقدر العلى

He truly surpassed the messengers and angels

From the Most Merciful at the Highest Rank

وحاز من الصفات أتم معنى

ونال القرب والفخر الجلي

And attained the most perfect of attributes

And was granted proximity and manifest superiority

مغيث من استغاث به كلمح

مفرج لوعة العبد الشجي

A savior for whoever pleads urgently to him

A reliever of the agony of the troubled servant

يحب لا يزال بقلب صب

وأين المستهام من الخلى

He loves and continues to love with the passion of youth

And where is the desperate from obtaining solace

هو البر الرؤف وخير خلق

محمد صفوة اللَه العلي

He is righteous, merciful and the best of creation

Muhammad is the elite of Allah the Exalted

أبان الحق مع رشد وهدى

ومهلك ذلك الغر القوي

He clarified truth with integrity and guidance

And destroyed the strong tyrants

نبي الصدق أكرمه مليك

وأطلعه على السر الخفي

The truthful Prophet honored by the King

And informed of the hidden secret

عظيم خاتم الأنبياء طراً

رئيس الرسل من دان قصي

The great seal of the Prophets purely

The chief of messengers from the Far

سليل الأكرمين ومن مصاص

هو المبعوث حقاً من لؤي

The descendant of the most noble

He is the one truly sent from the divine encounter

خيار من خيار خيار قوم

وسيد كل جهبذ لوذعي

The best of the best of the best people

And master of every stubborn tyrant

يفضل ليس تحصره عقول

بكل الضبط ذاك الالمحي

His superiority cannot be encompassed

By the intellect, that intimate one

رجوتك يا نبي اللَه سرعا

تطهرني من الدنس الخسي

I beseech you O Prophet of Allah come quickly

And purify me from degrading filth

وتسعدني وتقضى ذي منائي

تدمر كل ذي طاغ بغى

And make me successful and fulfill my wishes

And destroy every arrogant transgressor

فانك عالم يا غوث ما بي

ومضموني وجهري والخفي

For you know, O savior, what is in me

Both my confessions and my secrets

رحيم سيد برٌ وصول

سراج أنور نور مضى

Merciful master, righteous and loyal

A lamp giving light that passed

برؤية يثرب سُرَّت نفوس

لزورة قبره طاب المضي

With the sight of Yathrib the souls rejoiced

For visiting his grave the dwelling prospered

وخير الناس أخلاقاً وخلقا

على الاطلاق منتعل حفى

And the best of people in morals and manners

Absolutely the highest standard attained

وخصصه المليك هدى ونيلا

وبرأه من الاسوا بري

And the King singled him out with guidance and grace

And exonerated him from false allegations

وأكرم من سما ونداه سحا

على الوقاد والعافى سخى

And honored more than any who were called

Bestowing upon the elite and the commoners generously

فجاءك يبتغي الامداد رقا

وفتحا والوصال وذا الهنى

So I have come to you seeking help humbly

And victory, reunion and this bliss

ويرجوك لنيل منك حالا

وتردفه يد الكشف السني

And I hope from you now

To attain with the hand of unveiling

فجودك شامل كل النواحي

أتاه الناس أو مرؤ ظمى

For your generosity encompasses all aspects

Whether the people came to you or passed you by

فانك واسع القصاد جودا

وحسنى بل كريم أريحى

For you are vast in your generosity

And most gracious, rather Most Generous and soothing

رسول اللَه دارك منك سرعا

بنار الشوق صب مصطلى

O Messenger of Allah, your abode comes from you hastily

With the fire of passion pour down upon the beloved

كذا من كل جانب قد توالت

خطوب عندها كرب قسى

So from every side troubles have continued to befall me

When facing them severe distress occurred

وعذبني النوى صد وبعد

فيوحي ذاك من دنف خطى

And the intention of detachment thwarted and distanced me

Inspiring this from the proximity of mannerism

فجاهك يحمني ويقل عثارى

همام منتقى ندب حمى

So I have come to you to protect me and lighten my burden

The chosen protector called for help

فاني مذنب وخطاي جما

ومرتهن بأوزار وغي

For I am a sinner and my sins are many

And I am shackled with burdens and rebellion

فان تعفو فمنٌّ منك ربي

كذاك الظن في المولى العلي

But if You pardon, it would be favor from You, my Lord

This is what I think of the Exalted King

فمأمول الفتى أبداً دواماً

تغثه اذا توسل بالنبي

For it is always hoped for the young man

That you rescue him when he pleads through the Prophet

إذا احمر الوغا وكذاك بأس

وغشي من عيون ذوي الكمي

When the calamities grew severe with might

And overwhelmed with floods the people of prowess

بجانبه انتقى المكروب باسا

كذا قد جاء لفظ عن على

Beside him the troubled one sought refuge forcefully

As such has come the report about Ali

وفي حمى الوطيس أجاد ضرباً

وأذللهم بأبيض جوهري

And in the heated battle he excelled in striking

And humiliated them with his shining sword

وزحزهم وصحبهم بغزو

أباد المشركين بمشرفي

He shook them, routed them in war

Destroying the polytheists in the honored battles

جميل فعله قد لا يضاهى

وأكمل ذي الورى ليت ضري

Beautiful are his deeds that can have no match

And most perfect, if only my friends knew

ووقاف بنحو حدود ربي

وسهم ذاك في نحر الغبي

He stopped at the limits of my Lord

And that arrow struck the throat of the fool

وموردهم عداة اللَه سحا

وفي ذات الاله هو القوي

He unleashed upon the enemies of Allah pouring forth

And in the Being of Allah, He is the Powerful

أيا للَه من شادن زرود

ورامة والنقا وشعاب مي

What defenders of armored coats!

And archers! And lancers and cavalries!

أصاب فؤاد من لحظ وطرف

وأتلف مهجتي فانا بغي

It touched the heart of whoever gazed and glanced

And ruined my affection, so here I am in love

وفوق لي كذا ورمان حقاً

بسهم ذوي الحواجب بالقسي

And above that, it has indeed pierced me with its arrows

With the eyebrows of the intense gaze

فضر مني من هجر حب

واما الجسم لي فله عدي

So it has drived me away from the love I adore

As for my body, it has excuses for it

كواني بعده ونواه حقاً

ودق حشاشتي حتفا بشي

It is as if after him there is no true purpose

And it pounds my temples unto death

وأحر مني الكرى ليلاً هواه

وأيقظني السهاد وهجري

And his love deprives me of sleep at night

And his separation awakens me while asleep

أبا من بالمطا والظعن جاد

فديتك قف وجز ليلا بحي

O the one who is generous with blame and accusations! Stop!

My ransom is upon you! Stop for a night O my love!

تأدب خاشعاً للطرف واجري

سلامي أنت منخضعاً وحي

Walk humbly, lowering your gaze

Greet in surrender and awe

وقل عني بما فيه اكتفاء

من الوجد المبرح يا صفي

And send from me what will suffice

Of passionate love, O intimate friend

وهو اذا ما أنت راء

ضواحي البان والدوح القري

And it, if you are seeing it

The outskirts of the desert and the nearby village

عسى ان ينعموا عطفاً وفضلا

بما أهواه من وصل جلي

Perhaps they would show kindness and favor

With what I love of the glorious connection

ألا يا شعب عامر أو جياد

ترقوا نحو منكسر شجي

Will the noble tribe not head towards

The one broken-hearted in anguish?

سألتك يا إله العرش فضلاً

تجود على متيم منتمي

I asked You, O God of the Throne, for favor

To bestow upon the loyalist

بمختار وخير الخلق برا

به فضلاً خلقت لكل شي

For the Chosen One and the Best of Creation especially

For him You created favor over all things

عليه صلاة مولانا تهادى

دواماً بالبكور وبالعشي

Upon him, O our Master, prayers abound

Continuously at dawn and at night

وآل والصحاب وخير حزب

متى ما حل ركب شعب مي

And his family and the best party

Whenever the riding company of the tribe alighted
