1. إِنَّ الغَواني قَد عَجِبنَ كَثيراً

    وَرَأَينَني شَيخاً صَحَوتُ كَبيرا

    The young women were quite amazed

    When they saw me as an old white-haired sage

  2. قَصدُ الغَواني أَن أَرَدنَ هَوادَتي

    حَسبُ الكَبيرِ مُجَرَّباً مَخبورا

    The young women meant to win back my affection

    But for the aged, experience serves as protection

  3. إِنّي لَأَبذُل لِلخَليلِ إِذا دَنا

    مالي وَأَترُكُ مالَهُ مَوفورا

    For a dear friend, I'd give my wealth when asked

    And leave him well provided unharassed

  4. وَإِذا أَرَدتُ ثَوابَ ما أَعطَيتُهُ

    فَكَفى بِذاكَ لِنائِلٍ تَكديرا

    And if I hoped for payment for what I have given

    Bitterness for the seeker would be sufficient recompense

  5. إِنّي اِمرِؤٌ عَفُّ الخَلائِقِ لا أَرى

    طُرُقَ السَماحَةِ يا أُمَيمَ وَعورا

    I'm a man who pardons all of mankind's plights

    Who sees no rugged roads upon the plains of generosity, my gentle doe
