And my missive to the pining beloved

لبخيل بنفحة من شذاه

وكريم بالصد في كل حين

To a miser with a whiff of his fragrance

And generous with rejection at all times

هو مني كالروح ينعش جسمي

مثلما الأرض تنتشي بالمزون

He is to me like the soul giving life to my body

As the land comes alive with rain

يا حياتي يا نفحتي في حياتي

ألف حب هوى بقاع العيون

O my life, O breeze of my life

A thousand loves have fallen for the eyes

في عيون غرقت في مقلتيه

من معيني بكأس ماء معين

In eyes I drowned in their gaze

As if from my spring a cup of cool water
