  1. جهاد ولكن ليس بالسيف والقن

    فذلك أمر مفزع يحمل الفنا

    A struggle, but not with sword and spear,

    For that is frightening, bearing perdition.

  2. جهاد ولكن باجتماعات قادة

    لغير عداها لن تذل وتجبنا

    A struggle, but through meetings of leaders,

    For naught but them will humiliate and cow us.

  3. جهاد ولكن من خطيب مفوه

    يعللنا بالنصر حينا وبالمنى

    A struggle, but by an eloquent preacher,

    Who gives us hope of triumph or blessing,

  4. إذا ما تولى منبرا خلت صوته

    زئير هزبر صال للفتك وانثنى

    When he ascends the pulpit, his voice

    Becomes a roaring lion bent on havoc.

  5. تقاعس مثل المقعدين عن الوغى

    وعاش على ذلك الذين يجلب الغنى

    Lazing about like those who shun the fray,

    Living this way brings those who hoard riches.

  6. جهاد ولكن مجلس الأمن ساحه

    وفارسه من في الهراء تفننا

    A struggle, but the Security Council's hall

    Is the battlefield, and its knight overwhelmed us.

  7. جهاد أضاع العرض والأرض والدم

    وخلف داء في الجوانح مزمنا

    A struggle which lost honor, land and blood,

    And left behind lasting sickness in our hearts,

  8. وشتت شمل العرب في كل بقعة

    إلى ان غدت أشقى الأنام وأهونا

    Which scattered the unity of Arabs everywhere,

    Until they became the most wretched of peoples.

  9. ومزقها حتى استهان عدوه

    بها وعلى أنقاضها قوم البنا

    And tore them apart until their enemy

    Held them in contempt, and on their ruins built.

  10. يضم كما يهوى ويفعل ما يش

    يرى الأرض ملكا مستباحا ومسكنا

    He adds at will and does as he desires,

    Seeing the land an open, free dwelling.

  11. ونحن كما كنا غثاء مبعثر

    تهرأ من طول العنا وتعفنا

    While we remain chaff, scattered about,

    Wasting away from prolonged adversity.

  12. جهاد أو اليقظان قائد زحفه

    إلى موقع ما زال للغي موطنا

    Or the awakened leader of an advance

    To a place still an unknown abode.

  13. جهاد لمن ؟ ما قصدكم من جهادكم

    رعى الله منكم من أبان وأعلنا

    A struggle for whom? What do you intend, o strugglers,

    May God shepherd whoever proved loyal.

  14. أتنوون بعد الفتح تطبيق شرعة

    بها الله وصى في الكتاب وبينا

    Do you intend, after victory, to implement

    The law Allah ordained in the Book He made clear?

  15. أم انكم مستبدلون بشرعه

    نظاما له الشيطان أرسى وقننا

    Or are you replacing His code

    With a system the devil established and enacted?

  16. فإن كانت الأولى فإن جهادكم

    جدير بنصر يبعث الأمن والمنى

    If the first, then your struggle is worthy

    Of victory that brings security and prosperity.

  17. يهان به الخصم اللدود إذا اعتدى

    ويكرم فيه من أبر وأحسنا

    The hostile foe is disgraced if he transgresses,

    And he who acts righteously and well is honored.

  18. وإن كانت الأخرى فإن أحقكم

    بما نسج الشيطان من قد تمكنا

    But if the latter, the most deserving among you

    Of what the devil spun and firmly anchored,

  19. أرى قوم موسى لم يوحد شتاتهم

    لسان ولا جنس ولا اللون ما دنا

    I see the people of Moses, discord never united them,

    Not language, race or color brought them near.

  20. ولكن دين القوم ألف شملهم

    كما وحد الاسلام من قبل شملنا

    But their faith united and joined them together,

    Just as Islam united us before it.

  21. فكنا به بعد العداوات إخوة

    وكنا به الأعلون حقا على الدنا

    So we were, after enmities, brothers through it,

    And through it the most exalted of people.

  22. فمن مبلغ الأحزاب عنا بأنن

    نعيش زمانا حسبنا الله ربنا

    So inform the factions for us that we

    Live an era, God suffices as our Lord.

  23. أقل بلاياه الشقاق الذي نرى

    وأكثرها الذل الذي ساد جمعنا

    Its least tribulation is the conflict we see,

    And most is the humiliation that has ruled us.
