في شارع البطل التقينا صدفة

من غير توطئة ولا ميعاد

On the street of heroes we met by chance

Without prior planning or appointed time

كان اللقاء بها لأولة وهلة

فوجدت فيها منيتي ومرادي

It was our first meeting in that moment

I found in her my wish and desire

عذراء في أوج الشباب مليحة

أسرت بطرف المقلتين فؤادي

A maiden in the prime of beautiful youth

Who captivated my heart with a glance of her eyes

حيّت بخير تحية فأجبته

أهلا وحي الله بنت بلادي

I greeted her with best wishes, and she responded

Welcome, by God, daughter of my country

قالت أراك عرفتني فذكرتني

بالإسم قلت نعم وحق الضاد

She said, I see you recognized me, so mention me

By name. I said yes, by the letter 'd'

أنا يا منى نفسي أعيش هواك من

زمن فلا تستغربن ودادي

O my wish, I live passionately loving you

For so long, so don't be surprised by my affection

قالت أريدك أن تسجل بعض م

تختاره لي أنت من إنشاد

She said, I want you to record for me some

Poetry you choose for me yourself to recite

فأجبتها شعري وما ملكت يدي

هي ملككم وأنا على استعداد

So I responded, my poetry and what my hands possess

Is your possession, and I am at your service

وطلبت منها الإذن في إنشاده

شعرا يعبر عن فؤاد صادي

And I asked her permission to recite for her

A poem expressing the passion of my heart

قالت وهل تحتاج إذناً إنن

لجميع أشعار الأديب صوادي

She said, do you really need permission? For

I am all ears for the poet's chanting
