المنطقُ يبدو مَوروب

والباطلُ أصبحَ مَرغوبا

Logic appears corrupted

And falsehood has become desirable

والعَدْلُ اختلَّ توازنهُ

والحقُّ تَبَدَّدَ مَسْلوبا

Justice has lost its balance

And truth has been stripped away

ميزانُ النَّحْوِ بهِ خَلَلٌ

فالرَّفْعُ أتانا مَنصوبا

The grammar's scales are flawed

Subjects come as objects

قد كانَ لإنَّ شقيقاتٌ

هاجَرْنَ شَمالاً وجَنوبا

"Inna" once had sisters

Who migrated north and south

فغدَتْ من ضَعفٍ عاجِزَةً

أن تأخُذَ في النَّحوِ نَصيبا

Too weak now to claim

Any stake in grammar

والممنوعاتُ مِنَ الصَّرف ِ

انصرفت لا تخشى تأنيبا

Prohibited words freely shift

No fear of reproach

المشرِقُ تغشاهُ دَياجٍ

تمتدُّ قرونًا وَحُقوبا

The east is veiled in fog

Extending ages without cease

والمغرِبُ قد أمسى شرقً

يتوَهَّجُ نورًا ولهيبا

And the west has become an east

Blazing with light and flames

والأرنَبُ يَتَبَوّءُ عرْشً

والأسَدُ تبَدّى مَركوبا

The rabbit assumes a throne

The lion appears ridden

والنَّعجَةُ تقتاتُ لحومً

والذِّئبُ حَشائشَ وعُشُوبا

The ewe eats meat

The wolf herbs and plants

وتَطلُّ عَلَينا أَحكامٌ

تُسمِعُنا في الحُكمِ عَجيبا

Strange judgments descend on us

Filling our trials with wonders

أن تبقى أنتَ بلا وَطَنٍ

أو تحيا في الوَطَنِ غَريبا

To remain without a homeland

Or live in one a stranger

في زَمَنٍ أصْْبَحَ مَعكوسً

مَفهومُ العَدْلِ ومَقلوبا

In an age gone upside down

Concepts of justice upended

سِر مُنقَلِبًا حتى تَبقى

في نَظَرِ العالَمِ محبوبا
