Wrap me in roses and jasmine,
And sit by my head in tranquility.
Do not wail loudly over my bed,
But let me sleep with eyes full.
The breaths of winter chill my chest,
And the panting of autumn makes my forehead sweat.
I am in a slumber that began with my life,
It is the right of existence, do not wake me.
Mourn me in silence, with the most heartrending weeping,
Sorrow has boiled in a sad heart.
It burned its melody and made its echo harsh,
And turned into embers of yearning.
This is how I used to feed my love to myself,
And sing of sorrow and hide my moaning.
The calm of death is a pleasure to my imagination,
And freedom for my youth and thoughts.
In death is revealed a beguiling lifetime,
It is the secret of immortality after demise.
The scent of light behind the eyelids,
And God’s echo in the call of years.
Place my bridal wreath above my bed,
And overwhelm me with the dewy field’s flowers.
If I sang poetry in my youth,
It was for love, for ecstasy, for infatuation.
My friends and loves of my life,
Build my grave in the shade of branches.
That vineyard was the pasture of my intimacy,
So make it the grave of buried passion.
Do not fear, I am there alone on the hill,
And love fills my eyes.
I sing with the birds and chat
With the scented, affectionate breeze.
So remember me when you hear the streams
Sing to their Lord, and listen to me.
