أتجحد ما في الريح من أنة الحزن

وهل هي إلا رجع شجوك في الدجى

Do you deny what sorrow there is in the wind?

Is it not just the echo of your lament in the darkness?

سهرت وغط الناس حولك في الكرى

وفرق بين الجفن همك والجفن

You stayed up while the people around you slept in the towns,

And your concerns separated eyelid from eyelid.

وراعك أن الظلم خيم مطبقاً

ففي الهضب ما في السهل منه وفي الحزن

Beware, injustice looms heavily over us.

There is as much of it on the plateau as there is in the valley and in sorrow.

أتبعثهم في نفخك الروح بينهم

كما تنفخ الريح الشراع من السفن

Do you rouse them with your breath among them

As the wind rouses the sails of ships?

رويدك يا من يحسب العدل نعمةً

وما الظلم إلا ما توهم من ظن

Go slowly, O you who considers justice a blessing,

For injustice is only what the imagination conjures up.

وأين مكان الخلق منه وإنهم

معادن شتى في الذكاء وفي الأفن

And what is the place of people in it? Though they

Are diverse talents in intelligence and in skills.
