A country walked with its plains and mountains

Gushing with its women and men

Its nights were lit by the glimmer of its tears

And sorrow flowed like flames on its homes

And when it walked, grieving for its son

Magnify its sorrow, and do not ask of its state

In a procession like a torrent, were it not

Going slowly, and silence being all its speech

It's as though tripping on its tears

    Or walking upon its hopes

And there a coffin, the darkness of which

Is like a resting place for it

Guarded by a delegation of youth bidding farewell

To the shaykh of its awakening, the hero of its independence

And behind the bier you see a reverent people

    Blessed by touching its shadow

Its guards have lowered their arms since he who fell

Guardian of peace, martyr of lifelong struggle

So who is he lying drowned in his eternal rest

Flooded with the abundance of his glory?

And upon him a halo of holiness

Its white drops the whiteness of his deeds

And his right hand extended as though

It was spread one last time with its generosity

That right hand that tended the friendship of a ruler

While people's necks were obedient to its left

And you see on his lips a smile of relief

The smile of one unshackled from his chains

Or the smile of the crucified bearing

On his lips the verses of pardon for his killers

The feeder of the starving with all his food

The giver of the destitute the remainder of his money

I do not ask for mercy from my Lord for him

For I am certain of the goodness of his fate

    All people are God's dependents

The best of them most dutiful to His dependents
