    قم واشد يا ربّ القصائد

    Spring came while you were asleep

    Arise, O composer of poems

  2. ما للبلابل حين يبتسم

    الصباح وللمراقد

    Why do the nightingales smile

    When the morning dawns and the beds stir

  3. لك في الرياض أسرّة

    لا كالأسرّة والوسائد

    For you, there are secrets in the gardens

    Unlike secrets and pillows

  4. قم حيّه فيها وصغ

    ببهائه أسنى الفرائد

    Arise lively among them and listen

    To its splendor, the most melodious poems

  5. غرّاء يغضي النيران

    لضوئها قبل الفراقد

    A thrush softens the embers

    With its light before the sleeper

  6. والدر في الأصداف قب

    ل الدر في جيد الخرائد

    And pearls in shells accept

    Pearls in the necks of maidens

  7. تروي محاسنها الكواكب

    للعرائس والنواهد

    The planets narrate their beauties

    To the brides and the smitten

  8. غرّد فكم أطربت مع

    بوداً وكم جنّحت عابد

    Sing! How much you have delighted affectionately

    And how much you have fluttered worshipfully

  9. أسكر بها الوادي على

    فرح الأقارب والأباعد

    The valley was intoxicated with joy

    Of relatives and those afar

  10. ودع الحداة يرقّصون بها

    الدراري في الفدافد

    Let the enamored dance with it

    Sparrows in the thickets

  11. وذر الخليج بها يعيذ

    عروسه من كل حاسد

    And let the bay protect with it

    Its bride from every envier

  12. وأضف إلى الغرر الخوالد

    حليةً تسبي الخوالد

    And add to the eternal pearls

    An adornment that outshines pearls

  13. من درّك الغالي وغالي

    الدر يهدى للأماجد

    From your precious pearls and the precious

    Pearls gifted to the glorious

  14. والشاعر الحرّ الأبيّ

    يصونه والسوق كاسد

    And the free, proud poet

    Protects it while the market is stagnant

  15. والشعر ما هفت النفوس

    له وبعض الشعر فاسد

    And poetry is what enchants souls

    And some poetry is corrupt

  16. والشعر ما اضطرم الشعور

    به وإلّا فهو بارد

    And poetry is what ignites passions

    Otherwise, it is cold

  17. والشعر في الأشراف حيّ

    خالد والمال نافد

    And poetry in the noble is alive

    Immortal; and money expires

  18. ولآلىء الوجدان ظلم

    أن تصاغ لغير ناقد

    It is injustice for the pearls of the heart

    To be strung for other than a connoisseur

  19. والصائغ الموهوب تلمع

    في قلائده قلائد

    And the gifted jeweler, his necklaces shine

    With necklaces upon necklaces

  20. أهلاً وسهلاً بالربيع

    بمن به دنت الشوارد

    Welcome, O Spring,

    To the one whose return brought joy

  21. ولكلّ ملتاح صفت

    شتّى المناهل والموارد

    And each smiling mouth has

    Various springs and resources

  22. أهلا بعبد اللَه

    أهلا بالمفاخر والمحامد

    Welcome O Abdullah

    Welcome O Pride and Praise

  23. بفتى الكويت وذخرها

    وأميرها الشهم المساعد

    To Kuwait’s youth and its wealth

    And its intrepid, helpful Prince

  24. أهلاً وسهلاً بالمنار

    والمآرب والمقاصد

    Welcome O Beacon

    Of hopes, desires, and goals

  25. أهلا ويا بشرى المدارس

    والمكاتب والمعاهد

    Welcome and good tidings schools

    And offices and institutes

  26. بعد الشواكي والبواكبي

    والسواري والقواصد

    After the dark and bright stars

    And the poets and compositions

  27. يا فرحة الشعراء في

    ظلم الفوادح والشدائد

    O joy of poets in the

    Shadow of calamities and woes

  28. مولاي يا أمل العزيزة

    وابنها الحر المجاهد

    My Master, O Hope of the beloved

    And her free, struggling son

  29. يا من برفعة قدره

    بعد السها باهت عطارد

    O you whose esteem after the praise

    Dimmed Mercury

  30. ولحبّه بقلوبنا

    ونفوسنا أبقى المعابد

    And your love in our hearts

    And souls built the most sacred sanctuaries

  31. وبمدحه هتف الزمان

    وكم أصاخ وخرّ ساجد

    And your praise made time chant

    And how it roared and fell prostrate

  32. يا كوثراً يشفي ولا

    يلتاح بعد الورد وارد

    O a torrent that heals and is not

    Exhausted after roses wither

  33. يا نعمة للَه لم

    تجحد وما في الشعب جاحد

    O a blessing from God never

    Denied with no ingrate among the people

  34. بالأمس شيّعنا الفقيد

    بدمعنا وبما نكابد

    Yesterday, we bid farewell to the departed

    With our tears and pains

  35. واليوم بين يديك تلقي

    بالأعنّة والمقاود

    And today, before you we meet

    With cares and purposes

  36. فخذ الزمام وسر بنا

    فالسعد بسام وصاعد

    So take the reins and march with us

    For luck is decisive and ascending

  37. سر أيّها الفذّ الهمام

    فأنت فينا اليوم واحد

    March, O eminent, determined one

    For today, you are one with us

  38. ولديك عزم بالمصاعب

    يستخفّ وبالمكايد

    You have will to scorn hardships

    And plotters and schemes

  39. ولأنت أدرى بالطريق

    وبالحواجز والمصايد

    For you know best the path

    And barriers and traps

  40. ولأنت أعرف يا ابن

    سالم بالسياسة والأساود

    For you, O son of Salem, know best

    Politics and predators

  41. ولأنت أعلم بالحقول

    وما تدرّ وبالحواصد

    And you know best the fields

    And what they yield and the harvests

  42. ولأنت أخبر من سواك

    بمن علا بعض المقاعد

    And you know more than any other

    Who rose above some seats

  43. ما كان أغنى المقلة الكح

    لاء عن تلك المراود

    The fullest bucket is no richer than

    Those exchanges

  44. يا ربّ ريح طوّحت

    بسفينة والبحر راكد

    O Lord, a storm capsized

    A ship while the sea was still

  45. وحمامة للسّلم قصّ

    جناحها طمع المحايد

    And a dove of peace folded

    Its wings for the sake of truce

  46. وصريع كأس في السرير

    وكلبه ريّان راقد

    And a drunk lies unconscious in bed

    While his dog keeps guard

  47. فإذا أفاق حسا الصبوح

    وألف طرف منه ساهد

    And when he wakes up in the morning

    And finds his pillow gone

  48. ولربّ عقد طارف

    لا تشتريه بسلك تالد

    Many a worthless necklace

    Cannot be bought with a golden wire

  49. والنار في المصباح غير

    النار في جوف المواقد

    And the lamp’s fire is not

    The fire in the depths of furnaces

  50. وهوى الدراهم إن تأصّ

    ل علّة كهوى الموائد

    And lust for riches, if it takes root

    Is like lust for feasts

  51. والزهد يوجد في السماء

    وقد يكون الذئب زاهد

    Asceticism is found in the sky

    And the wolf may be an ascetic

  52. هذا وبسام اللَه كم

    أحبولة نصبت لصائد

    This, and God's guidance, how

    Many traps are set by hunters

  53. والدين من نعم السماء

    وباسمه الصياد راغد

    And religion is of heaven’s blessings

    And in its name, the hunter thrives

  54. وأبو التعصب والعقوق

    الجهل وهو أبو المفاسد

    And the father of bigotry and disobedience

    Is ignorance, the father of corruption

  55. والعلم نبراس على

    أضوائه تجنى الفوائد

    And knowledge is a torch whose

    Lights produce benefits

  56. فإلى الأمام إلى الأمام

    بنا ولا عذر لقاعد

    So onward, ever onward

    With us, no excuse to be idle

  57. وإلى الصراط المستقيم

    ولن ترى في القوم حائد

    To the Straight Path

    And you will not see deviation among the people

  58. والنار مثوى من يحيد

    ومن يشذّ عن القواعد

    Hellfire is the abode of those who stray

    And those who breach the foundations

  59. واللَه بالمرصاد يخزي

    كل شيطان ومارد

    And God is ever watchful, shaming

    Every devil and demon

  60. وعلى التكاتف والتفاني

    كلّنا جند يعاهد

    And to solidarity and dedication

    We are all soldiers who pledge

  61. ولك التهاني من صميم

    قلوبنا يا خير قائد

    And sincere congratulations

    O best leader

  62. ولذخرنا آل الصباح

    وإنّهم نعم السواعد

    And to the treasure of Al Sabah

    They are excellent supporters

  63. ولنا بعيد جلوسك

    الميمون أعياد عوائد

    And for us, after your

    Blessed ascension, recurring celebrations

  64. يا ابن الأباة وللمجال فحو

    له ولك الشواهد

    O son of glory, the horizons have

    Scope for it, and proofs of it

  65. كلّ يطير وللبزاة

    سماؤها وكذا الهداهد

    All take wing, and for resolve

    Its sky, and the same for sacrifices

  66. مولاي لا أشكو الزمان

    وكان قبل اليوم حاقد

    My Master, I do not complain of fate

    Though in the past it was hostile

  67. كلا ولا أخشى المباضع

    وهي تدمي والمبارد

    No! Nor do I fear shears

    As they wound, and blades

  68. لي فيكم عين بها

    بكم ألوذُ من الحواسد

    In you all I have a spring

    In which I take refuge from enviers

  69. يا ابن الصباح وما ابنه

    إلّا الضياء لكلّ قاصد

    O son of Sabah, and no son

    But radiance for every pursuer

  70. دم للكويت ابنها لها

    برّاً وعش للشّعب والد

    Blood for Kuwait, its son

    Loyal, living for its people

  71. للشيب منّا والشباب فكلّنا

    سعد وخالد

    For our elders and youth, we are all

    Joyful and immortal

  72. هاك اليمين على المحبّة

    والولا واللَه شاهد

    And loyalty, and God bears witness
