باتَ لَيلي بِالأَنعَمَينِ طَويلا

أَرقُبُ النَجمَ ساهِراً لَن يَزولا

My night has lasted long with worries twofold

I watch the stars sleepless, they will not fold

كَيفَ أُمدِ وَلا يَزالُ قَتيلٌ

مِن بَني وائِلٍ يُنادي قَتيلا

How can I forget, while cries never end

From Bani Wael, for his slain the cries blend

أَزجُرُ العَينَ أَن تُبَكّي الطُلولا

إِنَّ في الصَدرِ مِن كُلَيبٍ غَليلا

I curb my eyes that weep for graves untold

In my chest smolders ember hot twofold

إِنَّ في الصَدرِ حاجَةً لَن تُقَضّى

ما دَعا في الغُضونِ داعٍ هَديلا

In my chest, a need that will not conclude

As called in the tender shrubs, the wind blew

كَيفَ أَنساكَ يا كُلَيبُ وَلَمّا

أَقضِ حُزناً يَنوبُني وَغَليلا

How can I forget you, O heart in dole

Relieve sorrow in me, enhance my role

أَيُّها القَلبُ أَنجِزِ اليَومَ نَحباً

مِن بَني الحِصنِ إِذ غَدَوا وَذُحولا

O heart, fulfill today the pact we hold

Of Bani Hissin, when they donned their stole

كَيفَ يَبكي الطُلولَ مَن هُوَ رَهنٌ

بِطِعانِ الأَنامِ جيلاً فَجيلا

How can graves make one weep, who is bound

To people's spears, for eras compound?

أَنبَضوا مَعجِسَ القِسِيِّ وَأَبرَقـ

ـنا كَما توعِدُ الفُحولُ الفُحولا

They stirred the heated fight and lightnings shot

As warriors threaten warriors thunderbolt

وَصَبَرنا تَحتَ البَوارِقِ حَتّى

رَحَدَت فيهِمِ السُيوفُ طَويلا

We waited under lightning in great length

Till in them the swords gashed their strength

لَم يُطيقوا أَن يَنزِلوا وَنَزَلنا

وَأَخو الحَربِ مَن أَطاقَ النُزولا

They could not descend while we did downslide

And war's kin is he who can the descent bide
