1. O poetry, O companion of my sorrows,

    yours is the outpouring of my crazed, throbbing heart,

  2. my wanderings, and the lilacs of my heart,

    and hot tears brimming beneath my lids.

  3. O poetry, within you, wandering inspiration

    reveals itself as stars and rain-filled clouds.

  4. You are magic, delight, and a journey

    through the hidden depths of letters and arts.

  5. O boon companion, through you the companion communes with

    the rapture of fellowship and cascading peace.

  6. ..

    How often you have shone through the channels of my spirit

    and drunk the nectar—the essence of my enchantment;

  7. and slipped into the veins of my radiance

    like light commingled with doubts.

  8. O poetry, you are the spirit of what endures,

    a radiance, and murmurs of sorrow.

  9. .. !

    Within me, you are a song, and an outpouring that faded

    within the ribs of longing—the ribs of death!
