لَعَمرُكَ ما كُلَيبٌ حينَ دَلّى
بِحَبلٍ كَلبَهُ فيمَن يَميحُ
By your life, Kulaib—when he lowered
his dog with his rope, who then could draw water?—
بِأَعظَمَ مِن بَني سُفيانَ بَغياً
وَكُلُّ عَدوِّهِم مِنهُم مُريحُ
was no greater in tyranny than the sons of Sufyan;
and every foe of theirs drives captured herds home from them at dusk.
