1. لَعَمرُ بَني شِهابٍ ما أَقاموا

    صُدورَ الخَيلِ وَالأَسَلِ النِياعا

    By the life of Bani Shihab, they did not stay

    The chests of horses and the wailing of companions.

  2. وَلَكِنَّني كَرَرتُ بِفَضلِ قَومي

    فَجُدتُ بِنِعمَةٍ وَحَوَيتُ باعا

    But I have often, through the merit of my people,

    Found blessing and encompassed a need.

  3. وَذَلِكَ فِعلُنا في كُلِّ حَيٍّ

    وَنَنتَجِعُ الأَقاصِيَّ اِنتِجاعا

    That is what we do in every quarter,

    And we seek the furthest parts seeking refuge.
