My friend, give comfort to one in distress and embrace me,
And hold fast to the ribs of one whose ribs are broken.
It is forbidden that she should see in her life
One like my father generous and sedentary.
He brought aid and comfort to his tribe,
And was generous to each honored assembly.
His nature was kinder to his tribe,
And he was good to the guest and good for the assembly.
The crescent moon comes out of a cloud, they say,
Running in a torrent with banners.
Its splendor strengthens the bonds of kinship
And corrupts the soul of the spiteful frowning enemy.
He is no fainthearted man when night hides him.
Drowsy when they creep into the rugged area.
Rather he is a lamp in the night when he travels,
His light exposes each still and silent man.
