1. تَمَنَّيتَني قَيسَ بنَ سَعدٍ سَفاهَةً

    وَأَنتَ اِمرُؤٌ لا تَحتَويكَ المَقانِبُ

    Qays ibn Sa'd wished me foolishness

    While you are a man who cannot be contained by fate

  2. وَأَنتَ اِمرُؤٌ جَعدُ القَفا مُتَعَكِّسٌ

    مِنَ الأَقَطِ الحَوليِّ شَبعانُ كانِبُ

    And you are a man with curly hair on your nape

    Sated from the yearly prey, a cunning hunter

  3. إِذا اِنتَسَبوا لَم يَعرِفوا غَيرَ ثَعلَبٍ

    إِلَيهِم وَمِن شَرِّ السِباعِ الثَعالِبُ

    When they claim ancestry, they know no other but foxes
