My dear friend passed away suddenly among the birds

Oh my heart, let your eyes shed tears for him

We raced in passion until we were both exhausted

So which one of us in this race was the victim?

Wanders over my body where worries roam

His longing for the full moon's nobility dissuaded him

From wearing the garb of bereavement

It's no wonder that we both melted away

When a dear one settled in the belly of the tomb

The harbinger brought me the news, so I magnified his tidings

So I said, “Oh soul, have patience, for if

My affliction is grave, then comfort is beautiful”

She said, “How can there be patience or solace

When there is no way to see the beloved?”

The one with the great soul has found rest in the soil

Yet he forever dwells in our hearts

As if he were adescendant of the generous

If a man’s moral character indicates his merit

Then his virtuous traces are proof of him

He was always obedient to the voice of his conscience

While how many an imam inclines toward his desire

Oh you who left a homeland you protected

The battlefields have not known such remnants

You traversed the arena of strife as a mujahid

Your perspective in every crisis is sound

How could you leave today, oh loyal friend

When you were miserly in bidding us farewell?

You left behind in our hearts a searing agony

And in every breast resentment from your groaning

You fell in the field of battle struck by spears

As the deluded fall when they roam

You parted from brothers who yearned for you

While their hearts from your loss are infirm

They all walked around your bier in humility

With tearful eyes streaming for you

If the assailants inherit you in bits

I will compose verse while the tears pour

On the day you departed, a chaste woman wept

A painful, ceaseless weeping not done by the stoic

You left behind orphans who lamented over you

And spent the night, each asking about his father

That calamity startled them, so they woke up

With anguish and weeping in every heart

When for us there is no substitute for you

It pains us to see the garden where

    You stood your long life

Who left such great works will unfold you

And your virtues will remain immortalized in hearts

While your memory lives and time is faithful
