1. بينَ عامٍ مضى وعامٍ جديدِ

    مَوعظاتٌ تبدو لعين الرشيد

    Between a year now past and a new year ahead

    Are lessons for the wise to ponder and read

  2. يصرفُ الغرُّ عمرهُ في الملاهي

    وهو في قيد غَيهِ كالعبيد

    The fool spends his life lost in empty delight

    Enslaved by his whims like a helpless breed

  3. وأمرُّ الأيام ما كان فيها

    قدَمُ المرءِ في أَذل القيود

    The days go by, as we’re shackled and bound

    By fate, with no control over where we tread

  4. خل عنكَ الهوى وعِش عيشَ حرٍ

    تحيَ بالذكر بين اهل الخلود

    Leave desire behind, and live free, my friend

    You’ll be remembered among the honored dead

  5. ايُّ ذكر يبقى لمن عاش ميتاً

    وطواهُ الخمولُ قبل اللحود

    What memory remains of one who lived as dead

    Covered by sloth before he was buried?

  6. إِنما العاقلُ الذي يتباهى

    بالخلالِ الحسانِ لا بالنقود

    The wise take pride in merit and character

    Not in riches and gold that are ferry

  7. وبنو الغزم فخرهم بجلاهم

    لا بمجدٍ يروونهُ عن جدود

    Heroes pride themselves on their valor and fame

    Not on glories retold from their ancestors

  8. إِصنعِ الخيرَ ما استطعتَ فلا خ

    يرَ كان قلبهُ كالحديد

    Do good, my brother, as much as you can

    Though your heart be hardened like iron or lead

  9. وتعطف على أخي البؤس حتى

    يتأسَّى عن حظه المنكود

    Have mercy on those worn down by sorrow

    Don't let them despair, lost and forlorn

  10. كلُّ يومٍ يُقضَى بصُنعِ جميلٍ

    فهوَ ابهى من عِقد دُرٍ نضيد

    Each day spent doing a noble deed

    Is worth more than a necklace of pearls finely braid

  11. والذي يزرعُ العوارفَ يجني

    في اوانِ الحصادِ خيرَ الحصيد

    He who sows goodwill shall harvest the best

    When the time of reaping comes, and debts are repaid

  12. تتوالى الأعوامُ والناسُ صمٌّ

    عن خطوبٍ دويُّها كالرُّعود

    Years go by as people turn deaf ears

    To warnings loud as thunder overhead

  13. كلَّما أوعدَ الزمانُ بنيهِ

    بملماته ازدروا بالوعيد

    When time promises to make them atone

    They scoff at its threats, no heed will they pay

  14. عبدوا المال وهو ربٌّ كذوبٌ

    يجعلُ القلبَ كالشريدِ الطريد

    They worship money, that false, fickle lord

    It hardens their hearts and leads them astray

  15. ايَّ نفع يُجديهمِ يومَ يغدو

    عابدُ المالِ بينَ اهل الوقود

    Of what use on Judgment Day, when it casts

    Them into hellfire, forever to stay?

  16. يا عبيدَ الأهواء لا تتمادوا

    في الهوى واتقوا تعدي الحدود

    O slaves of desire do not transgress

    Beware that you surpass not boundaries set

  17. ان من يعصي من براهُ يقاسي

    ما يُقاسي الشريدُ بعد الشُّرود

    He who disobeys the Lord will be tried

    Like the lost refugee, aimless in regret

  18. والذي يغمطُ الجميلَ كنودٌ

    وأخسُّ الأخلاقِ خُلقُ الكنود

    He who is miserly is truly mean

    Baseness itself is a miser's heart and head

  19. ايُّ خيرٍ ما استنزلتهُ البرايا

    من سماء الرحمنِ ربّ الجود

    What blessings the heavens have poured on these lands

    By the grace of the Lord, the Most Generous, Most Benevolent

  20. افما جادَ بالوجودِ علينا

    أَيُّ برٍ يفوقُ برَّ الوجود

    None has blessed us more than the divine

    Could any kindness compare to life's holy breath?

  21. هوذا العامٌ فاتحاً سفر فضلٍ

    فأملأوهُ من كلّ مسعىً حميد

    This new year unfolds with abundant grace

    So strive to fill it with deeds noble and great

  22. هالهُ ما رآهُ في كل قُطرٍ

    من زحامٍ على النقودِ شديد

    Everywhere is such struggle and fight

    As people crave wealth and aggressively compete

  23. فعسى اللهُ أَن يمنَّ علينا

    بسلامٍ بعد الحروبِ مديد

    May God grant us after these wars

    Lasting peace and goodwill our hearts hoped we’d get

  24. فقلوبُ الورى إلى السلمِ ظمأَى

    وهي تصبو إلى وئامِ اكيد

    For the world thirsts for harmony and calm

    And yearns for affection that is true and complete

  25. تلكَ آمالنا عسى أن نراها

    مُثمراتِ في عامِنا ذا الجديد

    Those are our dreams, may we see them come true

    As fruits borne in this our new year ahead
