ترك النّزاهة عندنا

أدنى إلى وصف النّزاهه

Decency left with us

is closer to describing decency

ما ذاك إلاّ أنّها

تدعو الوقور إلى الفكاهه

That is only because

it invites dignity to cheerfulness

وإذا امرؤ نبذ الوقا

ر فقد تلبّس بالسفاهه

And if a man discarded dignity

then he has donned foolishness
