O people of destruction, your neighbor

Is prey to whatever peril you see him in.

His love has surrendered him to the spears

That torment the heart of the lover wherever they turn.

He trembles in my mantle's folds

As a rod quivers in the hand that holds it.

And my longing for his greeting

Was the longing of gardens for the rain that nurtures them.

But he was stingy even with that, what a pity!

The quintessence of passion has turned bitter.

Yet blessed is he, though he spurned and forgot me,

I am content with him in his refusal and acceptance.

It satisfies me to see him and to

Walk in his footsteps wherever they lead.
