She wondered at my dress when she saw me,

Wearing a robe embroidered and lined with silk.

Do not wonder, O maid, at this,

For before it was dressed in pearls and shells.

Think not that time has robbed me,

But that it has stripped from me a splendid dress.

The water that filled its sleeves

Old age has dried up and it faded away.

The stalks have withered from her fingers,

But the nights will renew and restore it again.
