إن الخليط أجدِّ البين فابتكروا
لنية ثم ما عاجوا وما انتظروا
The mixture is most perfect when combined
With purpose, then no delay or hesitation
زمّوا الجمال وقالوا إن مشربكم
ماء بكيلة لا ملح ولا كدر
They carried beauty and said your drink
Is measured water, neither salty nor turbid
ما كان بينهم إلا مجاهرة
أشفقت منها فماذا زادك الحذر
Nothing was between them but boasting
I was troubled by it, so what did caution avail?
استقبلوا المسقط الشرقي يحفزهم
في السير أشوَس منه الفحش والضجر
They faced the eastern horizon, roused
To march, more miserable than vulgarity and boredom
كأن ظعنهم والآل يرفعها
نخل المشقر أو ما زينت هجر
As if their howdahs and family lifted
Palm trees of Mishqar or what adorns Hijr
ما زلت أرمقهم في الال مرتفعا
حتى تقطع دون الجيرة البصر
I watched them in the night, raised up
Until beyond the hill, sight was cut off
فاقر الهموم التي نامت مذكرة
وشواشة سرحاً في دنِّها زور
Drive away the worries which slept as a reminder
And commotion wandering aimlessly among them is fraud
تذري الحصى وشماً من تحت منسمها
كما يرض سواديَ القرى مجر
Scattering pebbles and scent from beneath its terrain
As the black of my homes pleases Mujar
تمر جتلاً على الحاذين ذا خصل
كالعذق لا كشف فيه ولا زعر
Passing by the sides of the valley, with a lock
Like a date cluster, neither peeled nor shaken off
كأن أوب ذراعيها إذا نجدت
وأحرز الظل في أعدائه الشجر
As if the forearms, when she strains
And shelters in the shade among the trees her enemies
أوبُ ذراعي لجوج جاد واحدها
حتى إذا ما انتهى أودى بهِ القدر
The forearms of unruly Jad brought him down
Until fate accomplished what it ordained for him
فأبلغن قومنا إن جئتهم عذراً
عنا وهل ينفعنهم عندنا عذر
So convey to our people, if you come to them with an excuse
On our behalf - but will an excuse avail them with us?
أنا نذكرهم باللَه واحدة
وبالقرابة والأخرى التي وذروا
We remind them once of God
And once of kinship - though they neglected it
حسن البلاء وأياماً لنا سلفت
يبيَضُّ منها إذا ما تُذكر الشعر
The fine affliction and days that are past for us
Of which poetry whitens when it is recalled
فلا تعدوا علينا الزور وارتدعوا
فإن عندكم من مسِّنا خُيُر
So do not falsely accuse us, and hold back
For with you is the best of those we left behind
لا تبطروا السلم واستأنوا بإخوتكم
ان الندامة تعدو سبقها البطر
Do not sever ties and be gentle with your brothers
For regret surpasses what preceded the severing
وإن فينا صبوحاً غير ممتزج
يصري الدماء عليه الصاب والصبر
Among us are purebreds, unmixed
Who make blood flow, with steadfastness and patience
فينا فتوًّ وفينا سادة حشد
عند الصباح وفينا جامل عكر
Among us are young warriors and protectors of multitudes
At daybreak, and among us are reddened swords
كم من رئيس فريناه بأجمعه
بالمشرفية حتى يعدل الصعر
How many chieftains have we made equal
To the buzzards, until they matched the rock
