Passion burns between us, though our state tempts us
In our affliction, yearning prays in our suffering
With the eloquence of silence we express our restless longing
And restless longing brings confession bursting from secrets
He said: “Grant my letters the names of their journey”
I said: “The letters have faded, their form and composition erased”
The horizon nearly faded around us from passion’s fervor
When what nearly hid us was revealed to us
Yearning drives us, its impulses covering us
And dawn’s light erases the darkness of our nights
We walk, in our state an outpouring of our joy
As though the winds of the world cascade upon us
He said: “Borrow the wine of things,
Perhaps it will suffice us from the agony of secrets”
The soul only rises when we ignite it
An outpouring flows from confession wandering in us
O wind, do not overdo unveiling our journey
For the sands have hidden our songs since we were melodies
Do not kindle the expanse’s chill visions into clouds
Gather our poems however you meet us
And collect what we forgot of love in places
If wandering excessively smeared our ribs with clay
It casts upon us visions clarifying our distance
So water rises from the blessings of our past
And we release the letters cast off in our blood
That their trembling nearby might revive us
I realized what his eyes foretold of my eagerness
As though our shadow had wandered watering us
I saw him clarify the mirror portraying me
And he saw in me the state of lovers
So I said: “You are me,” and he hesitated. He said: “I
Saw what passion does to me, troubling me”
So I said: “Be my tranquility.” He said: “Tranquilize my chest”
And he said: “For desire ordained what we sought”
