عفا جانب البطحاء من بن هاشم

وجاور لحدا خارجا في الغماغم

The open desert spared the clan of Hashim

The side of Al-Batha is bereft of the son of Hashim, and he has neighbored a grave out in the wild.

And he dwelled by the tombs, away from the crowds

Death called him a summons and he answered it, and it left none among the people like the son of Hashim.

دعته المنايا دعوة فأجابها

وما تركت في الناس مثل بن هاشم

Death called him, and he answered the call

In the evening they went bearing his bier, his companions taking turns amidst the crowd.

Leaving no equal among men, the clan of Hashim

If the fates and their uncertainties have seized him, he was indeed a giver, full of compassion.

عشية راحوا يحملون سريره

تعاوره أصحابه في التزاحم

In the evening they carried his bier

His companions jostling for the honor

فان يك غالته المنايا وريبها

فقد كان معطاء كثير التراحم

If death took its toll and had its doubts

He was ever generous and kind
