1. حدثتُ نفسي فاستثرتُ هيامَها

    هل تستعيدُ بلادنُا أيّامَها

    I spoke to myself, arousing its passions:

    Will our country restore its days?

  2. يا نفسيَ الدنيا مُنىً ورغائبٌ

    ماذا عَليكِ لو استبحتِ جسامها

    O my soul, life is full of wishes and desires,

    Why care if you attain them?

  3. إن الشبابَ وما جهلتُ غرورَة

    يطوي الحياةَ مذهِّباً أحلامَها

    Youth and my ignorance of its arrogance

    Will fold life, ruining its dreams.

  4. أدعو المنى فإذا سعِدتُ فغاية

    أو لا فنفسي قد شَفَيتُ أُوَامَها

    I call out my wishes, and if I'm fortunate, it's enough;

    If not, at least my soul has healed its pain.

  5. ما لذَّةُ العيشِ الحقيقة وحدَها

    حسبُ النفوس تَوهّمت أوهامَها

    The true pleasure of life lies in itself alone;

    Souls only imagine their fantasies.

  6. تلك البلادُ الشاهقات جبالُها

    قد وطَّدتْ تحت الثرى أقدامَها

    Those towering countries, their mountains

    Have firmly planted their feet in the ground.

  7. الراسيات عزةً ألناهضات

    إلى السماء اللابسات غمامَها

    Standing with pride, rising up

    To the sky, cloaked in their clouds.

  8. تتحدث العظماتُ عن قُمّاتها

    متلمّساتٍ صخرَها ورَغَامَها

    Their greatness speaks of their summits,

    Feeling their rocks and gravel.

  9. فإذا مشى الوادي بهنّ حيالَها

    وإذا انبسطن مع السهول أمامَها

    When they walk through the valleys facing them,

    And when they stretch out before the plains,

  10. وقَفَ الزمانُ لديكَ يروي مجدَها

    ومشى إليك جلالُها قدّامها

    Time stands before you, relating their glory,

    And their majesty walks before them.

  11. تلك البلادُ الشافياتُ مياهُها

    ألمطفِئاتُ وما بَخِلن ضِرامَها

    Those lands with healing waters,

    Quenching thirst, never stingy with their streams.

  12. فوّارَةٌ فوق الصخور شرودةٌ

    بين الرُّبى كالطيرِ رُعتُ نظامها

    Bubbling above the rocks, wandering,

    Among the grass, like birds in rows.

  13. ماشيتُها غضبى كما هيّجتُ في

    بيداء شاسعةِ المدى ضرغامها

    I walked among their angry livestock

    On the vast desert plains.

  14. وصحبتُها بين الرياضِ نقيةً

    تمشي تُضاحكُ وردَها وخُزامَها

    And I walked among their pure meadows

    Smiling at their roses and fresh blooms.

  15. تلك البلادُ الزاهراتُ نجومُها

    ألكاشفاتُ وقد طلعنَ ظَلامَها

    Those flowering lands, their shining stars

    Reveal them and dispel their darkness.

  16. الناظماتُ من السناء قلائداً

    غُرّاً تسبّح بالثناء نِظامَها

    Weaving garlands of glory,

    Singing praises in tuneful harmony.

  17. يا حسنَها بجلالها ووئامِها

    لو كان قومي يفهمون وئامَها

    Their beauty, majesty and harmony -

    If only my people understood their harmony!

  18. تلك البلادُ وقد حوى تاريخُها

    صفحاتِ مجدٍ خلّدت أقوامَها

    Those lands whose history

    Recorded pages of glory of their people.

  19. ألصانعين من الترابِ عجائباً

    كفَلَ الزمانُ لدى الجمالِ دوامَها

    Building amazing monuments from the soil

    Whose beauty time preserved.

  20. جابوا البحارَ قريبَها وبعيدَها

    وبغوا السماءَ فسخّروا أجرامَها

    They sailed the near and far seas,

    And sought the sky, taming its spheres.

  21. لبنانُها مِلكُ الجبال وأرزُه

    مرّتْ به الأعصارُ تَحني هامَها

    Lebanon, the mountain king, its cedars

    Bent by storms, bowing their heads.

  22. مأوى الجبابرةِ العظامِ ومعقِلٌ

    عَصَم الملوكَ كبارَها وعظامَها

    Home of the greatest giants, the refuge

    That protected its kings and nobles.

  23. يا خالداً تطوي الدهورَ حياله

    ويظل يملأُ ذكرُهُ أعوامَها

    O Immortal One who makes eras pass by,

    Your memory fills the years.

  24. عوّذت مجدك أن يُلِمَّ به أذى

    ولك الحياةُ فلا رأيتَ خِتامها

    I protected your glory from harm

    And for you is eternal life without end.

  25. تلك البلادُ وما ذكرتُ جَمالها

    إلا لأذكرَ رَغم حبي ذامَها

    Those lands whose beauty I recalled

    Despite my love for them during their distress.

  26. علىَّ الذي خلق السَقَامَ لها إذا

    أصغى لشكواها شفى أسقامَها

    May He who brought them sickness heal them

    If He but listens to their complaint.

  27. اللهُ شرَّفها فأهبطَ وحْيَهُ

    فيها وعظّم بالمسيحِ مقامَها

    God ennobled them and sent down His revelation

    Exalting the station of Christ among them.

  28. عَهدِي به دينُ المحبة دينُه

    ما بالُها غلبَ الخِصامُ سلامَها

    My pact with Him is the religion of love,

    Why has dissent conquered their peace?

  29. تلك البلادُ وحبَّذا أبناؤها

    بين البنين إذا ذكرتُ كرامَها

    Those lands - how excellent are their people,

    When I recall their nobility among all people.

  30. عبثاً تُفَرّقُنا المُنى فنفوسُنا

    لبلادنا لا نستبيحُ ذِمامَها

    In vain have our desires divided us,

    Our souls do not sanction shaming them.

  31. تلك البلادُ وما نَسيتُ نساءها

    تشقى الرياضُ إذا نسيتُ حمامَها

    Those lands - I have not forgotten their women,

    The meadows suffer when I forget their doves.

  32. الحاضناتُ برحمةٍ أطفالَها

    والكافلاتُ من الشقا أيتامَها

    Who nurtured their children in mercy,

    And cared for their orphans in hardship.

  33. المُطعماتُ جياعَها والكاسياتُ

    عُراتها والشافِياتُ سَقامَها

    Who fed their hungry and clothed their bare,

    And healed their sick and their pain.

  34. واللهِ لم تَقُمِ البلادُ بنهضةٍ

    حتى تُريدَ السيداتُ قيامَها

    By God, no revival occurs in lands

    Until women desire to rise up.

  35. نادِ المنى تُقْبِلْ عليك سعودُها

    ودعِ الزمانَ محقِقاً أَحلامها

    Call out your wishes - good fortune will come to you

    And time will fulfill their dreams.

  36. تلك البلاد يُعيد مَجْدَ شبابِها

    مَن قاد للمجدِ القديم ذِمامَها

    Those lands - he who leads the old glory

    Will restore their lost youth.

  37. الشعبُ أعظم قوّةٍ غلابةٍ

    يطأُ النجومَ بها إلا هُوَ رامَها

    The people are the greatest conquering force,

    Trampling the stars if they dare resist.

  38. بلغَتْ من العلياء أرفعَ ذروةٍ

    أُمَمٌ رأيتُ ملوكَها خُدّامَها

    Some nations have reached the highest peak,

    Where I saw their kings become servants.

  39. وهوَت إلى دَرَك الشقاء تجمّداً

    أُممٌ أطالت في السكون منامَها

    Others have sunk to the depths of misery,

    Prolonging their slumber in stillness.

  40. تلك البلاد ولن تكونُ عزيزةً

    حتى يهذِّبَ شعبُها حكامَها

    Those lands will not be honored

    Until their people refine their rulers.
