1. هذي منازلُ أنسنا وصبنا

    ومطالعُ الحب الذي آخانا

    These are the dwellings where we delighted and lived,

    And the horizons of love that warmed us,

  2. ورياضُ آمال الحياة وصفوِها

    وحمى سلامِ قولبنا وهنانا

    And the gardens of life's hopes and its serenity,

    And the sanctuary of the peace of our hearts and our bliss.

  3. أوَ تذكُرُ العهدَ الذي نعمت به

    وقتَ الشبيبة في الهوى نفسانا

    Or do you remember the days when we reveled

    In the passion of love in our youth?

  4. أيامَ نمرح في خمائلِ حبِّنا

    نحني الصدورَ ونقطفُ الرمانا

    The days when we frolicked in the meadows of our love,

    Bending our chests and plucking pomegranates.

  5. أيامَ نسرحُ في رياضِ العلمِ لا

    همٌّ تعكَّرُ فيه كأسُ صفانا

    The days when we roamed in the gardens of knowledge without

    A care to embitter the cup of our joy.

  6. والكونُ يبسمِ حولَنا وسماؤه

    غراءُ نعشقُ وجْهَها الفتانا

    The universe smiled around us and its sky

    Was a gorgeous blue that we adored.

  7. والنجمُ يرقبنا بها فكأنه

    أمسى بخمرة حبنا سكرانا

    The stars watched over us as if drunk

    On the wine of our love.

  8. مرَّت ليالينا ومرَّ بهاؤها

    فكأنّ عهدَ سعودنا ما كانا

    Our nights passed, and with them their magic,

    As if the days of our joy had never been.

  9. حتى حسبنا الله في ملكوته

    ما كان يحرسُ غيرنا إنسانا

    Until God, in His kingdom, decreed

    That none would guard us but He.

  10. بالأمس كنا ليس نعرف ما الأسى

    وغدا نكونُ ولا يزول أسانا

    Yesterday we knew not sorrow,

    Today it stays with us and will not leave.

  11. هذي هي الدنيا وهذا طبها

    ليست تغيِّرُ طبعها دنيانا

    Such is this life, these are its ways,

    Its nature changes not, nor we.

  12. إيه بلادَ الشرقِ أنتِ عزيزةٌ

    عندي وحبُّكِ راسخٌ أركانا

    O lands of the East, you are dear to me

    And my love for you is firmly rooted.

  13. فعرفتُ فيكِ النورَ أوَّلَ مرةٍ

    وكفى به بحداثتي عرفنا

    In you I first knew light, in my tender youth,

    And that was enough to acquaint me.

  14. أنتِ التي زمنَ الصبى علمتني

    في حِجرِ أُمي الخيرَ والإحسانا

    You it was who taught me, in my mother's lap,

    Goodness and benevolence in my childhood days.

  15. أَوَ لَيْسَ تحتَ سماكِ طفلاً مرَّ بي

    زمنٌ يفاخر بالبها الأزمانا

    Was it not beneath your sky that as a child I passed,

    A time glorying over all other eras?

  16. عشرون عاماً في رياض شبيبتي

    نثرتْ عليَّ الوردَ والريحانا

    Twenty years in the gardens of my youth

    You showered on me roses and basil.

  17. واليومَ يا وطني وقد كاد الصِبا

    يمضي وكادَ سوادُهُ يغشانا

    And today, my homeland, as my youth

    Fades and its darkness starts to shroud me,

  18. ودجى الحياة عليَّ أرخى ستره

    وزمانُ جدي للسعادة هانا

    And the gloom of life spreads its veil over me,

    The time of my joy for happiness is gone.

  19. أرسلتُ في دنياي نظرة ناقدٍ

    فرأَيتُ جداً بالشقا مزدانا

    I cast a critical eye on my life

    And found it decked in the ornaments of sadness.

  20. وعرفتُ أَنَّ المرء مغرورٌ بها

    أَنى يكونُ يصادفُ الأحزانا

    And I knew that man is deluded by it

    Whenever it brings him sorrows.

  21. فعليكَ يا وطني السلامُ فما أنا

    لأُحبّ عيشاً بالأسى ملآنا

    So farewell, my country! I shall not

    Love living a life brimming with grief.

  22. قفْ بي أودعُ فيك جناتٍ بها

    لعبَ النسيمُ يحرِّكُ الأغصانا

    Stop, let me bid farewell to the gardens in you

    Where the breeze rustled the branches.

  23. وأحبةً للقلب تحتَ سماك لا

    أنساهمُ ومنازلاً غرّانا

    And the loved ones of my heart beneath your sky

    Whom I'll never forget, and the homes that delighted us.

  24. سأسيرُ في الدنيا إلى بلدٍ بها

    ليست ترى نفسُ العزيز هوانا

    I will travel the world to a land

    Where no noble soul sees disgrace.

  25. وأعيشُ لكن من جنى كفّي فلا

    ألقى عليَّ بها امرءاً منّانا

    And I will live by the yield of my hands

    So no man can reproach me.

  26. وأغيثُ أهلي عارفاً لجميلهم

    فالحق أن نعطي الذي أعطانا

    I will help my family, knowing their kindness,

    For we should give in return for what we are given.

  27. والله ما هجري بلاديَ عن رِضىً

    لكن بلادي توجبُ الهجرانا

    By God, I did not abandon my country willingly,

    But my country called for my departure.

  28. نزل التعصبُ في حماها لائذاً

    فأصابَ في لُبِّ القلوبِ مكانا

    Prejudice took refuge there, lodging

    In the core of hearts.

  29. ألقي عصا التسيار فيه ولا ارى

    إلا نفوساً في العلى تتفانى

    I cast the rod of authority but saw only

    Souls aspiring for what is lofty.

  30. وهناك أحلامُ الصبا ذهبيةٌ

    تُنسي ابن موسى الأصفرَ الرنانا

    And there the golden dreams of youth

    That made Ibn Mousa the melodious forget his sorrows.

  31. فلعلها يوماً تصحُّ وحبّذا

    يوماً تصح فأنثني فرحانا

    Perhaps one day they will come true. How wonderful

    The day they come true and we rejoice!

  32. وأعود للأوطانِ أطَّلِبُ العلى

    الله يحفظُ بالعلى الأوطانا

    I will return to the homelands in quest of nobility.

    May God preserve the homelands through nobility!

  33. وأرى بلاديَ حنةً وسماءَها

    زادت لفرط سرورها لمعانا

    I will see my country affectionate, and its sky

    Even more luminous in its excessive joy.

  34. الله في ذاك الزمان وليتني

    أحيا طويلاً كي أراه عيانا

    God, if I live to see that day,

    I will say: O Lebanon, home of my childhood!

  35. فأقول يا لبنانُ معهدَ صبوتي

    حياكَ من بعلاكَ قد أحيانا

    Your revival, after your desolation, gladdens me.

    This is but some of the dreams of youth.

  36. أنجيبُ هذي بعض أحلام الصبا

    ليت الشبابَ يصحُّ فيه رجانا

    If only youth could return rejuvenated!

    I loved Lebanon and I will always love it,

  37. أحببت لبناناً وسوفَ أُحبُّه

    ونحبُّه طولَ الحياة كلانا

    And we will all love it throughout our lives.

    If nothing remains of it but my father's bones,

  38. إنْ لم تكنْ إلا عظامُ أبي به

    فأنا أحبَّ لأجلها لبنانا

    Still for their sake I will love Lebanon.
