أَحبِبْ بمروانَ طفلاً واعتمدْه فَتىً

وحَيّه رجُلاً بالفضل يزدانُ

Love Marwan as a child and support him as a youth

And encourage him as a man with virtue to adorn him

نماه للمجد موروثاً ومكتسباً

أَبٌ وأُمٌّ هما للمجدِ عنوانُ

Raise him for glory inherited and acquired

A father and mother they are for glory the sign

يا حسنها عدّةً للدهر كافلةً

خلافةَ السَّلَفِ الأخيار مُذْ كانوا

How good preparation for fate nurturing

The succession of the righteous ancestors since they were

لعلَّها خيرُ تأريخٍ يُقال بِها

نِعمَ الخليفة في الأبناء مروان

Perhaps it is the best date told of them

How excellent the successor among the sons is Marwan
