Sulayma wished that I would settle in her land
Sulayma wished that I would dwell in her land, but how can I—woe to her—grant what Salma wished?
And I, for Sulayma and her love, wished what she wished
Oh, if only I knew whether I shall visit Sajir again, when it has been watered by morning rains and drunk its fill.
Oh would that I knew, shall I visit while fleeing
O Sons of Asad, is there any mercy among you, to forgive even if my sandal had slipped?
After drinking the water of Al-Ghwad and climbing its heights?
O Bani Asad, is there any affection in you
That you may pardon, if my sandal strap loosened?
