1. كَأَنَّ قَوائِمَ النَحامِ لَمّا

    تَحَمَّلَ صُحبَتي أُصُلاً مَحارُ

    As if the legs of the ostrich when

    Bearing my companionship became native willows

  2. عَلى قَرماءَ عاليَةٌ شَواهُ

    كَأَنَّ بَياضَ غُرَّتِهِ خِمَارُ

    Upon lofty sand dunes, its whiteness is

    Like an abaya's fabric

  3. وَما يُدريكَ ما فَقري إِلَيهِ

    إِذا مَا القَومُ وَلَّوا أَو أَغاروا

    And what would you know of my need for him

    When the people turn away or depart

  4. وَيُحضِرُ فَوقَ جُهدِ الحُضرِ نَصّاً

    يَصيدُكَ قافِلاً وَالمُخُّ رارُ

    And he brings, beyond the effort of the towns, aid

    That hunts you down though returning and fate bitter
