وَأَذعَرَ كَلاّباً يَقودُ كِلابَهُ

وَمَرجَةُ لَمّا اِقتَبِسها بِمِقنَبِ

He startled dogs led by dog leaders

And a meadow when he lit it with a flint

يا صاحِبَيَّ أَلا لا حَيَّ بِالوادي

إِلاّ عَبيدٌ وَآمٌ بَينَ أَذوادِ

My friend! There is no life in this valley

Except for slaves and a protector among allies

أَتَنظُرانِ قَليلاً رَيثَ غَفلَتِهِم

أَم تَعدُوانِ فِإِنَّ الريحَ لِلعادي

Do you watch them a little during their inattention

Or do you attack them? For the wind aids the assailant
