1. وَدَّ نُفَيرٌ لِلمَكاوِرِ أَنَّهُم

    بِنَجرانَ في شاءِ الحِجازِ المُوَقَّرِ

    A group yearned for adventures, that they

    Were in Najran during the esteemed months of Hijaz

  2. أَسَعياً إِلى نَجرانَ في شَهرِ ناجِرٍ

    حُفاةً وَأَعيا كُلُّ أَعيَسَ مِسفَرِ

    Heading to Najran in the blazing month

    Barefoot, with worn-out clothes, every travel-weary one

  3. وَقَرَّت لَهُم عَيني بِيَومِ حُذُنَّةٍ

    كَأَنَّهُمُ تَذبيحُ شاءٍ مُعتَّرِ

    And my eyes were comforted on the day of Huthaynah

    As if they were slaughtered sheep adorned

  4. عَمَدتُم إِلى شِلوٍ تُنوذِرَ قَبلَكم

    كَثيرِ عِظامَ الرَأسِ ضَخمُ المُذَمَّرِ

    You have turned to Shilw that warns you

    Of the many skull bones, huge and armored
