And if in Damascus we could reach, my friend,
And truly we have in Sham, if we could but reach him,
A beloved of ours, O Teyhan, bringing us together,
A friend to us, O Tayyihan, sincere and true.
We would count for him the days out of love for his memory,
We count the days for him, out of love for his memory,
And number for him, O Teyhan, the nights.
And we number the nights for him, O Tayyihan.
If only the mounts could carry you up,
Would that the riding mounts had borne you up, ascending,
Roving with you the barren deserts.
Traversing with their strides the rough terrain and deserts.
