1. ضَاربٌ في الخيالِ مُلْقٍ عِنانَه

    مَلَكَ الوحيُ قلبَه ولسانَه

    A striker in fantasy, letting loose his reins

    The angel of revelation has possessed his heart and his tongue

  2. مستفيضُ الجمالِ، أزهرُ كالور

    د، إذا كلَّلَ النَّدى أفنانَه

    Overflowing with beauty, a flower that blossoms like a rose

    When the dew crowns its branches

  3. عاشَ بين الأنامِ نِضْوَ غرامٍ

    لم يُنَفِّض من الصِّبَا طيلسانَه

    He lived among people in the prime of passion

    Never shaking off from youth its mantle

  4. ملأ الكونَ من أياديه سحرًا

    وبنى ملكه وشدَّ كِيانَه

    He filled the universe with magic from his hands

    And built his kingdom and strengthened its structure

  5. وحباهُ الخلودَ في العالم الفاني

    وأبقى على البلى سلطانَه

    And endowed him with eternity in the transient world

    And kept his power above decay

  6. هو فجرُ النبوغِ يصدحُ فيه

    كلُّ من أطلقَ الهوى وجدانَه

    He is the dawn of genius in which

    Every one who has unleashed love and its zeal resounds

  7. وسماءٌ للشَّاعر الفذِّ منها

    يستقي الشعرُ وحيَه وبيانَه

    And a heaven for the supreme poet from which

    Poetry derives its inspiration and eloquence

  8. تجتلي ريشة المصوِّرِ منه

    كلَّ عذراءَ لا تَرُدُّ بنانَه

    The feather of the portrayer shines from it

    Every maiden whose eyelashes it does not reject

  9. وهو قيثارةُ الخلود عليها

    يعزفُ الطيرُ في الرُّبى ألحانَه

    It is the guitar of eternity on which

    The birds modulate their melodies in the meadows

  10. وأنا الشَّاعر الذي افتنَّ بالحسنِ

    وأذكتْ يدُ الحياةِ افتنانَه

    And I am the poet who fell in love with beauty

    And the hand of life kindled his fascination

  11. معهدي هذه المروجُ، وأستَا

    ذي ربيعُ الطبيعةِ الفينانَهْ

    My institute is these meadows, and my professor

    Is the charming spring nature

  12. وأزاهيرُ حانياتٌ على النهـ

    ـرِ يُقَبِّلْنَ، في الضحى شُطآنَه

    And flowers are the taverns on the riverbank that kiss

    In the morning its banks

  13. ناشراتٍ وشيَ الربيع عليها

    ساكباتٍ، في لجِّهِ، ألوانَه

    Budding and clothed by spring upon them

    Pouring in its basin its colors

  14. يتسمَّعنَ للخرير المناجي

    ويرتِّلنَ للرُّبى تَحنانَه

    Hearkening to the murmur of the lover

    And chanting to the guitar his sighing

  15. معبدٌ للطيور، راهبهُ الليلُ،

    وناقوسه الصَّبا الرنَّانَةْ

    A temple for birds, its priest is the night

    And its ringing bell is the ringing east wind

  16. ومحاريبُ للعذارى إذا ما

    سَكَبَ الغربُ في الدجى أُرجوانَهْ

    And tabernacles for maidens when

    The west pours its purple in the gloom

  17. قام ربُّ الفنِّ الجميلِ عليها

    مستَحِثًّا تحت الظلام قِيَانَهْ

    The lord of fine art stood over it

    Igniting under darkness its pillars

  18. يتغنى لحنَ الخلود ويدعو

    من وراءِ الغيبِ الرهيبِ زمانَهْ

    Singing the melody of eternity and calling

    From beyond the awe-inspiring unseen its time

  19. أيُّها الدهرُ: حسبك الله، ماذا

    برجالِ الفُنون هذى المهانَهْ؟

    O time: God suffices me, what is

    This humiliation of the men of arts?

  20. هل تبينتَ في رفاتِ أواليَّ

    دفينًا محا البلى عنوانَه؟

    Have you seen in the remains of my ancestors

    Something buried that decay has erased its mark?

  21. قف على الفنِّ بين شرقٍ وغربٍ

    وصفِ العالمَ المخلِّد شانَهْ

    Stop at art in East and West

    And describe the immortalizing world its rank

  22. عرشُ غرناطةَ، إلهُ أثينا

    تاجُ روما، سماءُ مجدِ الكنانَهْ

    The throne of Granada, the god of Athens

    The crown of Rome, the sky of the glory of sculpture

  23. يشرق السحر من تماثيل فيها

    ومقاصيرَ كالبروجِ المزانَهْ

    Magic shines from statues in them

    And minarets like the positioned constellations

  24. وتراءى العذراءُ تُلْهمُ رافائيـ

    ـلَ روح الخلودِ وحيَ الديانَهْ

    And the maiden seems to inspire Raphael

    The spirit of eternity and the revelation of religion

  25. وابنُ حمديسَ في الملا، ولمر

    تينِ يفيضانِ صبوةً ومجانَهْ

    And the son of Hamdis in the royal court, and for Marten

    They overflow with youth and generosity

  26. ناجيَا الروضَ والبحيرةَ حتَّى

    لمسَ الفنُّ فيهما عُنفوانَهْ

    Conversing with the garden and the lake until

    Art touched in them its vigor

  27. إنما المجدُ، في الورى، لِمُغَنٍّ

    هزَّ قلب الورى وقادَ عِنانَهْ

    Indeed glory, in the world, is to a composer

    Who shook the heart of the world and led its reins

  28. ولمن ساسَ في الممالكِ عدلًا

    وارتضى الحقَّ في العلا بنيانَهْ

    And to one who ruled kingdoms with justice

    And approved the truth supremely in its structure
