Your beauty and the brimming cup
Renewed my youth, so I got drunk
A dream of days and serene nights
Passed through my life, and I passed through
I'm drunk, and some is left in the cup
What wine from the vines of eternity did I squeeze?
Ah, bring it close, bring the cup near
And serve it to me, my Andalusian
Don't say which inspiring voice
Led our souls, so we came and met
Your fermented blood mixed with mine
A soul from the past passionately calls to us
My soul mate! Bring it to my lips
If we drink or revel, what's it to us?
Ah, bring it from perfect beauty
And serve it to me, my Andalusian
The first glance was one of two glances
Then it became a word between us
Love is amazed by two foreigners
He didn't say “You”...nor did she say “I”
We swam above a valley of two slopes
Under a horizon of clouds and brilliance
I imagined her with Arab traits
And called “You, my Andalusian”
I woke at sunset’s shadow
Kissing the flowers and the leaves of trees
I left her between a lover and his beloved
A goodbye kiss before the journey
She looked back at the wondrous valley
Images fading after images
And I heard her soft whisper
You, my soul, my Andalusian
We stopped by a shore of saplings
And snuck away alone after the crowds
I said, and night follows day:
Will you be mine tonight in melody and wine?
We exiles have no family or homes
If we turn these into cups of wine
Ah, bring it like your cheeks, so pure
And serve it to me, my Andalusian
A tavern welcomed us with a charming tune
Like the legends of olden times
Its walls gilded in gold
Captivated love and beauty's passions
She said “Drink!” I said “As you wish, let’s drink
Fill both our cups, for we are thirsty”
A Roman or Babylonian wine
Serve it to me, my Andalusian
She cheered me, her hands in mine
Teasingly raising the cup in joy
What passionate lyre did I leave
To speak of the secrets of my heart?
I said: a child from the dawn of time
Mixing melodies of wine and love
A golden cup in his hands
So serve it to me, my Andalusian
The night passed, calling to wandering souls
Every imagination and youthful folly
The lamp faded, except the cup of relief
Its light flickering and leaping
It challenged the glow of dawn
So we stayed by it, side by side
Sipping it at daybreak, fresh
As I sang to you, my Andalusian
My Andalusian bride
Your home is far, and the caravan is near
Where are the dreams of the moonlit nights?
The lakes strolling with us?
Remember, between the golden cups,
A tavern, if only it had lasted for us
When I call you morning and night
Serve it to me, my Andalusian
