1. وقفةً بالشواطئِ المحزونَةْ

    يذكر النيلُ دمعَه وشجونَهْ

    A pause on the grieving shores

    The Nile recalls its tear and lamentations

  2. وَدَّ لوْ حولوا إلى السِّين مجرا

    هُ وبَثُّوا على الطريقِ عيونَهْ

    If only its course was turned into the letter 'Sīn'

    And its eyes were scattered on the road

  3. ومشى بالشهيدِ للوطنِ الثا

    كلِ بحرًا من الدُّموع الهتونَهْ

    And the martyr walked to the wounded homeland

    Each sea overflowing with calm tears

  4. دَنَتِ الدَّارُ، يا سفينة، إلَّا

    شاطئٌ حالتْ المنيَّةُ دونَهْ

    The house came near, O ship, except

    Death obstructed it from reaching the shore

  5. فاهدئي في ضفاف مصرَ وقرِّي

    آن لليث أن يَحِلَّ عرينَهْ

    So be still on Egypt's banks and rest

    It's time for the lion to return to its den

  6. قَرِّبِي من أديمها هيكلَ الحقِّ

    تَضُمُّ الصدرَ الذي تحملينَهْ

    Bring the temple of truth closer to its land

    Embracing the chest that you carry

  7. لحظةً يشتكي المتيمُ فيها

    لوعةَ البينِ أو يبثُّ حنينَهْ

    A moment when the afflicted complains

    The agony of separation or utters its longing

  8. ولك اللهُ، يا شواطئُ، فيمن

    كنتِ في كلِّ موكبٍ ترقبينَهْ

    God be with you, O shores, who

    Waited for him in every procession

  9. ذَهَبَتْ بسمةُ الثغورِ وحالتْ

    لمحاتُ الطوالع الميمونَهْ

    The smile of the frontiers is gone and

    The auspicious rising lights have disappeared

  10. ما عَرَفْتِ السفينَ من عهد «نافا

    رينَ» غيرَ المجللاتِ الحزينَهْ

    You have not known the ship since the days of "Navarino"

    Except the sad decorated ones

  11. خرجتْ منكِ، لَيلَةَ البحر، غرَّا

    ءَ عليها من المنى ألفُ زينَهْ

    On the night of the sea, they went out from you

    Adorned with wishes, while the wounded moans within

  12. ثم آبتْ إليكِ منكوسةَ الصو

    رِ يئنُّ الجريحُ فيها أنينَهْ

    Then they returned to you with lowered images

    As the injured whimpers with his groan

  13. فسلي البحرَ هل غدا لكِ أو را

    حَ بطيفٍ من الفتوحِ المبينَهْ

    So ask the sea, has it sailed to you

    With any ghosts of the evident conquests?

  14. ما شَهِدتِ الأيامَ غيرَ سوادٍ

    يشفقُ النجمُ أنْ يشقَّ دجونَهْ

    You have not witnessed days except gloom

    As the star has pity to pierce its darkness

  15. كلَّ يومٍ تستقبلينَ شهيدًا

    ذاقَ في وحشةٍ الغريبِ منونَهْ

    Every day you receive a martyr

    Who tasted loneliness's death in exile

  16. أو طريدًا وراءَ بحرٍ تحامَى

    أن يرى مصرَ في الحديدِ سجينَهْ

    Or an outcast behind an arrogant sea

    So as not to see Egypt chained

  17. فاذكري الآن، يا شواطئُ، عينًا

    شَيَّعَتْ بالبكاءِ كلَّ سفينَهْ

    Remember now, O shores, an eye

    That bid farewell to each ship with tears

  18. واحملي الوافدَ الكريمَ حنانًا

    والثُمي ثغرهُ، وحيِّي جبينَهْ

    And carry the noble newcomer with affection

    Kiss his thirsty lips, and greet his forehead

  19. وإذا ضقتِ بالأسى فاستمدي الـ

    ـنوحَ من كل قريةٍ ومدينَهْ

    And if you are overwhelmed with sorrow

    Draw sobbing from each village and city

  20. سائِلِي الريحَ أن تضجَّ عويلًا

    وسلي البحرَ أن يُجَنَّ جنونَهْ

    Ask the wind to scream with wailing

    And ask the sea to craze with its madness

  21. ذاك وادي البكا، وما بعجيبٍ

    أن يَرَى الناسُ في البكاءِ فنونَهْ!

    That is the valley of crying, and it is no wonder

    That people see art in crying!

  22. يا شهيدَ «الأحرار» لا كان يومٌ

    كم تمنَّى في الغيب ألَّا يكونَهْ

    O martyr of "Al-Ahrar", there was no day

    That he did not wish in absentia that it would not exist

  23. فزع النيلُ بالظنون إليه

    فتحدَّى رجاءَهُ وظنونَهْ

    The Nile was startled with suspicions about him

    So it challenged its hope and suspicions

  24. كلَّ جرحٍ أسالَ رُزْؤُكَ حتَّى

    رَسَفَتْ مصرُ في الجراح الثخينَةْ

    Every wound shed your satisfaction until

    Egypt drowned in deep wounds

  25. لو تَلَفَّتَّ خلفَ نعشِك يا «عد

    لي» لراعتْكَ أمةٌ مسكينَهْ

    If you had looked behind your coffin, O "Adly"

    A miserable nation would have shuddered for you

  26. كنت أهلًا لبرِّها وهواها

    وهي كانتْ بمن تُحِبُّ ضنينَهْ!

    You were worthy of its righteousness and passion

    And it was passionate about whom it loves!

  27. كيف لا تستقلُّ في حقك الدمـ

    ـعَ ولا تُرخص الدموعَ الثمينَهْ؟

    How can it not shed valuable tears for your right

    And not make crying common for your sake?

  28. ما بكاءٌ على الذي اتَّخذَ الأو

    طانَ دنياهُ في الحياةِ ودينَهْ؟

    No crying over one who took the homeland

    As his worldly life and religion!

  29. ما بكاءٌ على الذي حبس القلـ

    ـبَ عليها، وجيبَه، وسكونَهْ؟

    No crying over one who confined the heart to it

    And his pocket and tranquility!

  30. ما بكاءٌ عليه لو كان يُفدَى

    كنتِ يا مصرُ برةً تفتدينَهْ!!

    No crying over him even if he could be ransomed

    You, O Egypt, would have been dutiful to ransom him!!

  31. يا رسولَ السلام في كل حين

    فقدتْ مصرُ وحيَه وأمينَهْ

    O messenger of peace at all times

    Egypt has lost its revelation and trustee

  32. ذكر الناسُ فيكَ أيامَ «سعدٍ»

    فبكوا رحمةً لما يذكرونَهْ

    People recall in you the days of "Saad"

    So they cried in mercy for what they remember

  33. وتناجوا بذكر «ثروتَ» حتى

    رجعوا الأمسَ واستعادوا

    And they whispered the memory of "Tharwat" until

    They returned yesterday and regained

  34. عرضوا الذكريات فاهتجنَ فيهم

    شئونَهْ...........................

    They presented the memories so they were provoked in them

    its affairs................

  35. دِنْتَ بالنُّبْلِ والوداعةِ قلبًا

    كامنَ الحزن والهمومَ الدفينَهْ

    You were noble and kind at heart

    Hidden inside is sorrow and sorrows

  36. عقدتْ كفُّه بكفكَ عهدًا

    عجز البطش والأذى أن يُلينه

    His palm made a covenant with yours

    That aggression and harm cannot soften

  37. وتعانقتما وما كنتَ إلَّا

    يتمنَّى العدوُّ ألَّا تصونَهْ

    And you embraced while you were only

    Wishing the enemy does not protect him

  38. ..............................

    عونَ سعدٍ وإلفَهُ وخدينَهْ!

    ....................

    Saad's help, his company and his affection!

  39. يا نصيرَ الحقوقِ آثرت حقًّا

    كلُّ نفسٍ بما قضاهُ رهينَهْ

    O guardian of rights, you preferred what is right

    While each soul is hostage to what it has earned

  40. فنمِ الآنَ في ثرى مصرَ وانزلْ

    منزلَ الحبِّ والهدى والسكينَهْ

    So sleep now in Egypt's soil and descend

    To the abode of love, guidance and tranquility

  41. لم يَمُتْ مَنْ حديثُهُ يملأ الوا

    دي ويطوي سهولَه وحزونَهْ

    One whose talk fills the valley

    And folds its sorrows, has not died

  42. تأخذُ الظالمينَ صيحتُه الكبـ

    ـرى، وتستعذبُ السماءُ رنينَهْ!

    His great call takes the oppressors

    And the sky savors his melody!
