1. شَاعَ في جوِّهِ الخيالُ ورفَّ الـ

    ـحُسنُ والسِّحرُ والهوى والمراحُ

    Imagination flourished in his soul, and beauty, charm, passion and joy soared.

    A fragrant breeze fluttered in it hearts, and souls fluttered.

  2. ونسيمٌ مُعَطَّرٌ خفقتْ فيـ

    ـهِ قلوبٌ، ورفرفتْ أرواحُ

    And their wish was wings that flutter.

    And a world in which hope flutters.

  3. وَمُنًى كلهنَّ أجنحة تهفو

    ودنيا بها يَدِفُّ جناحُ

    And around it rings of flowers

    from which fragrance blew and scent wafted.

  4. ومن الزَّهرِ حولها حلقاتٌ

    طابَ منها الشذا ورقَّ النفاحُ

    Each bouquet carried a weeping eye

    as the buckets carry the dew.

  5. حَمَلتْ كلُّ باقةٍ دمعَ مفتو

    نٍ كما تحمل النَّدى الأدواحُ

    And in the intoxication of youth it flourishes

    With laughter that does not tire and joking.

  6. وهي في ميعةِ الصِّبا يزدهيها

    ضَحكٌ لا تملُّه ومزاحُ

    And singing as if an inebriated moon

    cheered the winds with its melodies.

  7. وغناءٌ كأنَّ قُمريةٌ سكـ

    ـرى بألحانها تشيعُ الرَّاحُ

    Her affection sincerely reflected in the mirror

    so it shone and gleamed.

  8. أخلصتْ ودَّها المرايا فراحتْ

    تتملَّى فتشرقُ الأوضاحُ

    She revealed her beauty from every veil

    and allowed what is not usually allowed.

  9. كشفتْ عن جمالِها كلَّ خافٍ

    وأباحتْ لهنَّ ما لا يُباحُ

    A temple of beauty, magic and charm

    where sanctity rests and relaxes.

  10. معْبدٌ للجمال، والسحر، والفتـ

    ـنةِ يُغدي لقدسِه ويُراحُ

    The beloved (Cupid) slept at its door

    but in his grip was the key.

  11. نام في بابه العزيزُ (كيوبيـ

    ـدُ) ولكنْ في كفِّهِ المفتاحُ

    If he sleeps, then life is joy and amusement

    or if he awakens, then tears and wounds!

  12. إِنْ ينَمْ فالحياةُ شدوٌ ولهوٌ

    أو يُنَبِّهْ فأدمعٌ وجراحُ!!

    One evening she entered with me

    where there was no clamor or ghosts.

  13. دخَلَتْ بي إليه ذاتَ مساءٍ

    حيثُ لا ضجَّةٌ ولا أشباحُ

    We were not friends before, but

    it is a world that allows the unallowed.

  14. لم نكن قبلُ بالرفيقين، لكن

    هي دُنيا تُتيحُ ما لا يُتاحُ

    And we sat as tranquility descended upon us

    and the lamp showed us our faces.

  15. وجلسنا يهفو السكونُ علينا

    ويُرينا وجوهَنَا المصباحُ

    She called to me: Who are you, oh companion?

    So I said: The tortured, the afflicted.

  16. هتفتْ بي: تُراكَ من أنتَ يا صا

    حِ؟ فقلتُ المعذَّبُ الملتاحُ

    The poet of love and beauty; she said:

    It is fine if the wing fell in love!

  17. شاعرُ الحبِّ والجمالِ؛ فقالت:

    ما عليهِ إذا أحبَّ جُنَاحُ

    And she hugged my sad head with her arms

    and a breeze passed over my forehead.

  18. واحتوى رأسيَ الحزينَ ذراعا

    ها، ومرَّتْ على جبينيَ راحُ

    And she saw the yellowness of sorrow on lips

    scorched by breath and cups.

  19. ورأت صُفرَةَ الأسى في شفاهٍ

    أحرقتها الأنفاسُ والأقداحُ

    So she reproached: How could we not know

    what afflictions have relieved you?

  20. فمضت في عتابها: كيف لم ند

    رِ بما برَّحتْ بك الأتراحُ؟

    If we were unkind to you, then today

    will reward you for what you have tasted - consent and tolerance.

  21. إن أسأنا إليك فاليوم يجزيـ

    ـكَ بما ذُقتَه رِضًا وسماحُ

    And tonight which brought us together is yours

    so seize it until dawn breaks!

  22. ولك الليلةُ التي جمعتنا

    فاغتنمها حتى يلوحَ الصباحُ!!

    I said: the spring's fragrance is enough for me

    and for my eyes its flirtatious flowers.

  23. قلتُ: حسبي من الربيع شذاهُ

    ولعَيْنيَّ زهرهُ اللَّمَّاحُ

    We are the birds of imagination, and beauty is a garden

    in which we are all chirping nightingales.

  24. نحنُ طيرُ الخيالِ، والحسنُ روضٌ

    كلُّنا فيه بلبلٌ صدَّاحُ

    Hearts were lost in its passion

    and souls attained eternity!!

  25. فَنِيَتْ في هواهُ منا قلوبٌ

    وأصابت خلودَها الأرواحُ!!
