Did you turn towards me or persist in disdain?
I am content with your love, O beautiful one.
By God, you did not turn away but spared me,
The excess of passion and rose above my hopes.
Whenever I see you, I see nothing but charm
Sublime in brilliance and flashing light.
How often I wanted to close my eyes to avoid you
But saw that they could not refrain from looking.
I sought solace but you unleashed
My soul, letting its spirited steed run free.
It crosses the glowing embers of an arid plain
And wades through the cool of streams and gardens.
I found others but my desire met only
Fuel and flames, nothing else.
I distracted myself from you with pleasures
But my soul found no joy like your absent dream.
At first obedient, then disobedient, I found myself
In your hands, not disgraced or ignoring you.
But because if you come to mind, your image
Pursues me with the most wondrous past!
